Hotels in the Lake District
Discussion
Am looking to book a weekend away with my girlfriend at the end of May to the lake district and have a shortlist of hotels, I would welcome any opinions or recommendations on these or any others. My shortlist so far is:
The Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere,
Lodore Falls Hotel in Borrowdale,
The Belsfield Hotel (lake view room) in Bowness on Windermere,
Glenridding Hotel (Best Western, close to The Inn on the Lake)

We stayed at The Swan Hotel (Windermere) a few years ago and had a great few days.
I am not sure what it is like now as it has been sometime since our trip.

Said it on another thread recently - hotels aside, if you've got a choice of one in Windermere and one just about anywhere else I'd take the 'anywhere else,' option. Can't comment on the Wordsworth (only walked and driven past it a few times) but the location is definitely better. Keswick is a decent area too.

Think I have decided on The Wordsworth in Grasmere. Next its on to planning the 2 day itinerary, suggestions welcome!
Depends what you want to do. I did a few trips up there before getting off my arse, out of the car and up into the hills and discovered just how much I'd been missing. But for a few options:Wast Water. Just a stunning place. The route from Grasmere takes you over the Hardknott and Wrynose Passes - great experience if you've got a stomach for tight, steep roads. And cracking views along the road itself.
The Via Ferrata is good fun - basically climbing without the skill, clipped onto wires running along the side of Fleetwith Pike.
Thirlmere. Another lovely place - a lake (well, reservoir technically) that's worth having a wander around.
The Langdale Valley - just round the corner from Grasmere, a stunning place. Worth popping down to the Old Dungeon Ghyll for a pint.
If you're looking to go for a walk there are literally dozens of walks that offer some decent views with an hours walk or so.
There's a few to be getting on with.
