European family villa recommendations?

Good luck with that.
Flights are foolishly expensive in school holidays but if you check Thomson and Vueling daily, there will come a point where the flights come down enough to book. When comparing, note that Vueling include luggage and Thomson thieve £44 a case.
Your budget makes a villa with a private pool harder to come by but the rule in Spain is the further inland you go, the far more cheap it gets. Last year, we went to Calpe but it could just as well have been anywhere as the kids just wanted to be in the pool all the time. However, I would recommend Calpe as it's a lovely resort. Look for a villa in the Los Pinos area as it's walking distance to the main promenade.
If you can afford Mallorca, have a look at Marina D'Or III complex (www.ownersdirect.co.uk) in Cala Egos (part of Cala D'Or) which has a communal pool but the split apartments (2 bed below, 1 bed above) have little walled and gated gardens so the pool is never more then 20 feet away.
If an apartment on a complex doesn't bother you then Nerea Residencial in Peniscola is somewhere we use - communal pools and on the edge of Peniscola which is a great resort with it's isthmus town within a castle and 2 beaches. To get there, you need to fly to Barcelona and drive down. Ordinarily, we don't like apartments but the complex is quite a nice one.

We used this company to book in December last year before Christmas.

Villa was very good, as per the description with its own pool and away from the other more traditional exports from this country on holiday.
