Anyone got any suggestions for decent campsites or camping locations heading south through France.

Will be taking a few days to a week to travel to northern Spain then will head a bit further south in Spain maybe but after some recommendations of places to stop and wander around.

My route is quite open to change but was thinking of Dover to Calais then head to around the Le Mans area then virtually just heading south towards the border.

Any do's and don'ts?

Depends when you are going but ACSI card if not in high season is a must

Saumur in the Loire Valley if that suits your route south

If the camping is a mens to an end, then I'd suggest using the municipal sites on your route. They are cheap (maybe 15 Euros a night), have showerblocks + toilets etc, usually a small shop, visiting pizza van etc, and are near to the town/village. If you are camping to travel then they are ideal - stop, pitch tent, walk to nearby bars + restaurants, pack up next day and move on.

If you mean a camping holiday then I'd suggest not using them. Think of them as a camping equivalent of F1 hotels; cheap stopover. What they dont have is water slides, electricity, entertainment etc. This makes them very peaceful.
