Monaco, is it possible to do it on the cheap?!
Discussion
Nice hotel is circa £200 for one night or £500 for 3-might as well go for it don't you think?
However, will we be absolutely brassic by the end of it? Is there much to do there for 3 days?! To be honest we were just planning on doing one night there to see the sights but if we can spend some time by the pool I'm cool with that

Yes can definitely be done daily cheaply depending on what you do.
When we go we normally stay in Cannes in apartments (I presume this will be doable in Monaco, if not there are many lovely villages/towns on the coast and the trains are good and frequent).
Food prices will be similar to here if you go to none fancy places.
The palace is worth a walk round as is the harbour and maybe a quick trip to the casino......
As said if you get bored there are some lovely places around and if you have a car some great roads!!!
If your flying into Nice they do helicopter taxis to Monaco which are cheaper than you would think.
We go every year so i hope that helps!

3 days is a bit much in my opinion if you are thinking of staying exclusively in and around Monaco - its only about a mile across, and most of it is apartment buildings. There are a few lovely places quite close by - will you have a car?
We spent a day and half there last year and walked pretty much the whole place and felt satisfied - even spent a bit of time at the beach and went jetskiing around the super yachts (definitely do this!).
We stayed at the Novotel Monte Carlo and I think it was about £150 for the night in early September. Quite reasonable really and a private car park.

Excellent, it's actually the Novotel that I'm looking at. The itinerary is that we'll don't get there until late on the first night, perhaps around 7pm. Then we'd have 2 full days before heading off reasonably early after the 3rd night so I'd imagine two full days would be fine-especially as if the weather is nice we'd want to spend some time at the hotels pool.We spent a day and half there last year and walked pretty much the whole place and felt satisfied - even spent a bit of time at the beach and went jetskiing around the super yachts (definitely do this!).

How did you find the prices at the hotel for food & drinks etc? The pool area looks pretty small, do the towel reservation lot book all the beds out early?!
Food didn't jump out at me as mega expensive from what I remember. think London prices id say.
We didn't actually go near the pool! The sea was too inviting! A pool is a pool is a pool
the beach is actually really nice there.
It's here;
Promenade du Larvotto, 98000 Monaco

We hung out on the pier steps for a few hours, you can jump off the pier (about 10m down) if you feel brave enough - good fun

It may sound boring to sit around watching a film on holiday but if there is anything on, get to the rooftop open air cinema too!

I loved the place, a lot more to do than I was expecting, and its always fun to watch the boats come in and out of the harbour.
Plus the cars. The cars!

One afternoon in Monaco was enough for me. If you have to do it on a budget I don't see the point. I suggest staying at one of the very pretty towns nearby (e.g. Beaulieu-sur-Mer,Villefranche-sur-Mer) and just drive to Monaco for a couple of hours. Unless you really MUST experience the joy of dropping £100,000 in five minutes at the Casino de Monte Carlo).

Stay in a hotel in Beausoleil which is the french part of Monaco - there are a couple of familiy run hotels there.. funny to see where the border is.... the paving changes on the pavements... and there is one police officer standing on duty on one of the main roads..
My wife and I stay in the Hotel Diana in Beausoleil.http://www.monte-carlo.mc/hotel-diana-beausoleil/i...
Only a two star but cheap. We then can afford to take the helicopter from Nice to Monaco.
