zermatt road trip hotel and roads suggestions

We are planning trip in july to Zermatt and surrounds but the problem is all the hotels I like the look of are in zermatt which is car free...

Can anyone suggest good hotels 4 or 5 star which are relatively near and in the mountains which are accessible by car and in particular an Italian donkey?!

Zermatt is indeed car free. you can park a couple of kilometres outside the town and get a bus or taxi in but its not the ideal Car based destination. No through road of course,the town is at the top of a spectacular valley.

I can recommend a couple of Hotels in the town if thats still of interest. The Beausite Parkhotel is wonderful, as is The Alpenhof which is also right next to the Funicular and a short walk to the Railway station.

But in truth there are a dozen or more great Hotels in the town and its a proper Summer destination too , with excellent transport up into the surrounding
mountains.

Stay in Tasch, plenty of hotels with large car parks, and use the Matterhorn terminal train. It's really easy and quick. I stayed just across the road.
