I'll be setting off in a few days for a 10-14 day road trip round the UK with my gf. We're loading the 993 up with camping gear and going for a bit of an explore before we head to Europe for the same for 2 months or so smile

The UK part of the trip is completely open, we have no specific plans except that we'd rather not go any further west than Somerset/Dorset (that's for another trip) and don't fancy a ferry to Northern Ireland i.e. the rest of England, Scotland and Wales is fair game.

So, we're looking for suggestions for the following, any help would be much appreciated!

1) specific places to visit that are particularly pretty
2) particularly good roads to drive driving
3) good campsites/places to camp

In return, I promise to take lots of photos and post them up when we get back to show the fruits of our efforts smile

Starting where? How long are you looking to drive each day?

The standard response is the North West of Scotland, however it can be busy in the summer.

Well if up in Scotland the A85 to Oban is lovely but I'm no local. Down in the west country the B3135 from Cheddar gorge is great, winding sharp twistys through the rocks before opening up to longer sweeping corners into the countryside.

Apologies, missed that fairly critical info! We're starting near Newbury most likely, with first thoughts to head across Wales to Aberystwyth (so any recommended roads on way there would be great smile ), then heading north.

Say 200 miles/day on average would be okay.

The best road trip I ever did, from Somerset , up the right hand side of Scotland, across the top and down the left hand side, in February a couple of years ago, snow on the ground but passable, stopping off every night. The scenery was just stunning !

Make sure you drive the pass into Applecross and stop at the Applecross Inn for lunch; phenomenal road, great food and the views are spectacular!

I would have a longish driving day to start with and finish up at St Davids, Pembrokeshire and then work my way up the Welsh coastline. It depends on the weather of course but try to remain flexible by stopping for sightseeing days when the weather is nice.
Lake district, West coast of Scotland and down the East coast - Montrose/St Andrews and back down the east coast taking in Lindisfarne, Yorks Moors, Whitby but it is a job to suggest places when we all like different things.
Good luck with a couple of weeks camping gear in a 993! Always bear in mind that it will take you a lot longer than you think to drive 200 miles in Wales than 200 miles on the M1!!

Take a look at the route of this years Tour de Yorkshire (obviously not the same weekend) and there are some great driving roads round there, especially the Buttertubs pass and ending up at Tan Hill for a big Yorkshire pudding and a pint.

OP, seeing as you're heading towards Aberystwyth from the East I reckon it'd be rude not to go over the Abergwesyn Pass.
