Advice on Good Motor Museums/etc in Germany

Hello all.
I'm cutting short a trip to Finland to stay with friends after a bit of a fallout, but I want to make the most of the time I've alloted myself away from the UK. One plan was to go via ferry to Stockholm, then Copenhagen, Amsterdam and back to London, but I found Finnferries does a long haul to Hamburg and that got me thinking that maybe there's a couple of good places I can stop in on the way back to good old England. Does anyone have any particularly good ideas? Obviously I'm aware of the Nurburgring, and I'm sure all the manufacturers have their museums, but which ones are the best for a filthy unemployed graduate on a summer jaunt?

Not sure on your exact movements, but I can highly recommend the Schlumpf museum just over the border in France (Mullhouse). With ref to the above. The Technik museums are both fantastic. There is the one at Sinsheim that I've been to a couple of times and its sister museum at Speyer (also a nice historic town) that I finally got to this year. I've also done the Mullhouse museum. Good but for me the Technik museums win hands down, just on the vast array of stuff they have on display.

I believe that quite near to Miniatur Wunderland there is also a sportscar museum thats supposed to be good. But you could probably lose a day in Wunderland itself it is fantastic
You must do Sinsheim also, as its fantastic as mentioned. I was a bit underwhelmed when we walked up to the entrance but it really is a fantastic day out, there is something there for everyone and lots and lots of it too. If your on a budget, you can get a cracking meal in the autohof, (truckstop) just by the museum.
BMW museum in Munich is very good also, but sadly i havn't made Porsche or Mercedes museums yet, but hope to in the future.
Thanks for the advice, guys. I think I'll stay a few days in Hamburg then, and then probably get the train direct cross country to Stuttgart and take in all the sights there (maybe get a bus to Munich/Ingolstadt as well, and then over the border to France.
It is amusing to see that the train across pretty much all of Germany is only listed at €60-ish, and takes just under 2 hours. Britain and Finland would charge you thrice that and take five times as long...

It may be a bit off your beaten track but Sinsheim is brilliant.
Concorde and Tupolev on the roof, loads of other planes, lots of other things to interact with like a full size plane you can "fly", steam train etc....and a mahoosive collection of cars.
They have Hitler's car which is a bit creepy.
