Passport Delays

Basically wondered if there are any delays at the moment, stupidly lost my passport and need to apply for another, going away 4th October. So do I need to panic or are all the delays from earlier in the year now sorted. Fingers crossed they are all sorted as Mrs Phil Dicky is less than amused as usual

sending it away should take 3 weeks but a friend said it took them almost 6 weeks in the end, so you should be fine

but for £20 more you can go to an office and get it done within 1 week or for £40 more you can get it on the day, which is what i did recently

Just renewed mine - has taken 6 weeks.

If you need one for October, get the application in NOW to make sure.

Might have to go down the week route, don't think I could cope with tutting off the missus for 6 weeks.

We have been through the process since it came on the news about the backlog and then the Mrs took ages to sort out the paperwork and photos etc. Child renewal was done in 2 weeks, child first passport took 5 weeks.

Booked onto the 1 week express service, £20 more but get the passport within 7 days, so worth the hassle.

Our daughter's first passport arrived today - it should have taken 3 weeks by their own SLA's - they advised 4 more likely given it's holiday season / industrial action / closure of passport offices in embassy's - actually took 5 weeks including post - we're off in 2 weeks so I was getting a bit twitchy - but worst case it would have meant a day sat in a Passport office for an urgent fast-track and CMD said it would have been free.

There's different SLA's depending on different circumstances and if something needs checking it can take an age so "earlier the better" to get your application in.

EDIT: You can monitor your application process at any time - but frankly there's little point, you get an semi-automated response 48 hours later via e-mail confirming the day they received it and quoting the SLAs, we got an SMS this morning saying it was being sent out, then Postie turned up with it an hour later oddly.

Mine was replaced recently and was 5 weeks or so.

Did mine online three weeks to arrive.

Who do they get to post them though, our regular post is 11:30 ish.

The Passprt came at 7:00

You might expect a delay with the loss, so get the application off now

Unmarked couriers deliver them, mine turned up in a banged out Ford Escort a few years ago.

Mine was posted on June 21st, I received a text on June 27th saying they had received it and it would take 3 weeks.

I'm still waiting nearly 7 weeks later.

Not sure if it's because I'm renewing and changing name at the same time that's making it take so long, combined with all the recent problems they've had.

I sent mine off late June/early July (online renewal) and had it back a week and a half later. A colleague sent hers off three days before me and it took 4 weeks.... Hers was received at one office, then sent to the Liverpool office, hence the delay. Guess its all luck of the draw!

It's this reason I've gone for the express service, haven't really got the time only 8 weeks before we go.

I sent my renewal a couple of weeks before the st hit the fan but it came back in the 3 weeks they said it would.

I went into Liverpool passport office two weeks ago, and four hours later I left with a new passport, jumbo size, £137

Update....I received a phonecall at 8am (!) this morning saying it was being done today and I should receive it within 5 days.

Had the appointment in Liverpool Tuesday just gone and passport arrived this morning, so happy boy

Can't remember how far in advance you can renew these.

Some of ours run out next March.
