10 Day Road Trip Around Europe
Discussion
Hello PistonHeaders,
This summer, me and a few mates decided we would go on a little road trip around a few countries over 10 days. I came across some pictures and thought id share our trip with you.
The whole idea was thought up one wet evening in a London bar, and after a good few pints to lubricate our imagination, We came up with this; we find a few more people, buy a car or two and come up with a route.
What actually happened: we ended up as a group of four. Now we had an actual number of people coming we had to decide on a car. None of us wanted to use our own cars due to size (one of us has a mini cooper s and I own a fiesta ST – not exactly big cars).
We all trawled the classifieds for hours at a time before a local garage called us, they had heard of our little trip and said they had the perfect car for us. It had plenty of room for 4 people, a big boot and a motorway munching 2.5 v6 diesel.
Introducing, our mighty Audi A6 Avant

We got it for a steal but it was in need of some TLC. Going by the state of the interior, I can only assume the previous owner had used the inside as some sort of wheelbarrow. It took a lot of cleaning but we got there in the end.

The car also had a new Convenience control module as the old one was shot and some new (part worn) tyres.
With the car now sorted we turned our attention to the actual trip. We had no planned route to take, just a few nights accommodation booked. Two nights in Paris, one in Geneva, two at Lake Garda. The plan was to camp the other nights.
We set off early on a Friday morning to catch our ferry from dover, on the route to the ferry I discovered that when I left my mates to sort out some part worns they didn’t get the wheels balanced. So at 70mph the steering wheel gave your arms a good work out. But we simply had to live with it and fortunately the wobble decreased with more speed.

we left Britain with this behind us.
Although I didn’t get any pictures of the car in Paris I got some nice ones of the city

Next up we drove to Geneva where we had a cheap hotel booked for the night but that was fine by us, cheap was good after the expense of Paris.
Again I didn’t get any pictures of the car in Geneva as it was in a boring car park but after wandering in to some –cough- interesting parts of Geneva darkness fell and I got some nice pictures of the city in the beauty of the night’s sky.

The next morning we were up bright and early to avoid the parking fee, from there we drove to northern Italy and chose to go over the mountains because I wanted to do some photography, we drove some beautiful roads all morning when the satnav caught us by surprise when it said we had reached our destination. We all looked at each other as we realised we had arrived at a station in the middle of nowhere, but it was pretty. So we reprogrammed our rout to go over the mountain we stood at the bottom of.
On the way up the car got rather hot, combination of altitude and a traffic jam. So we pulled over for lunch and decided we needed some group photos

From here we went to a random campsite somewhere in Italy. Was pretty but windy as hell. We setup camp and got our heads down for the night knowing tomorrow we had a static caravan booked at lake garda. Here we had a good three days.
windy camp site

Next we drove to another random campsite but this time it was in Nice.

We visited a few places around nice such as Monaco and some other ports with big boats and nice cars.

From here we drove to our final stop. A badly booked hotel in Beaune. We booked it for the wrong day, €180 down the drain, but oh well we celebrated the evening in style.
After that we drove home. I wish id got some photos but id filled all of my memory cards, all 120Gb of them.
Thank you for reading, it was an amazing trip and I just wanted to share it with you.
