Is there anywhere nice near Malaga, Spain?
Discussion
Hi - I am in Norway doing some hiking at the tail end of July this year and the flights are very reasonable coming home via Malaga airport, which will give me 4 or 5 days there. I am hoping a can grab a rental car and head off somewhere nice from there.
Any hidden gems within a few hour driving radius of Malaga? It will be me and the other half and we would like to escape the normal touristy package deal costa del sol style holidays on the coast if possible! I don't know anywhere around there!
Cheers!

Seville, Cordoba, Ronda (and the surrounding area) are all great. I ended a road trip through Spain with a week in old town Marbella and that was rather nice too. Stayed here..

Seville is brilliant. The tapas is unbelievable.
Ronda is absolutely slammed with tourists - good to look at, but only has half a day in it.
I highly rate Cadiz. Great food and atmosphere and stunning to look at.
Are Cadiz and Seville very car friendly? Will be in the hire car!Ronda is absolutely slammed with tourists - good to look at, but only has half a day in it.

Look for villas around Alora and that area.
Stunning scenery and easy access to Antequera, including El Torcal, their lake district around El Chorro and, the other way, Ronda.
I have stayed at several remarkable value villas but somewhere like Vine Ridge Retreats offer good value.

In general, inland offers a vastly better experience than the coast.

Granada for the Alhambra, a couple of days driving through the Sierra Nevada and Cordoba. One option.
Seville is another - just park the car in a car park when you arrive, you won't need it in the city - Jerez will be good for a day trip from there, and Carmona is also charming.
Or stay somewhere like Benahavis and have day trips - Ronda, Gaucin, old Marbella as mentioned, lots of lovely little mountain villages - this place is the nicest hotel in Benahavis I think - http://www.amanhavis.com/en/
The village is full of restaurants so you won;t need to walk far of an evening and the hotel itself has one of the best restaurants.

We stayed here http://www.hotelholos.com/EN/hotel.html in Seville a couple of years ago.
They have underground parking available and a couple of bikes you can use. Seville is very bike friendly. It is located next to the Expo and so either walking or cycling into the city is interesting.
I think you can pretty much ch do the city in a couple of days.

Puerto Banus. It's actually not nice at all IMO but has to be seen.
Apart from saying it's where an excess of questionable money and a even bigger excess of questionable taste combine to ascend to a entirely new level of ostentatious vulgarity I really don't have the words to describe it further so suggest you go and see for yourself.
Sit with a coffee or beer in a marinaside bar and just watch...
