Palma airport car hire question
Discussion
I hope someone can help
I need to rent a car at Palma airport I cannot find out which companies are actually at the airport with vehicles "on site"
I really don't want to get involved in shuttle buses etc. One company Terry's car hire want 270 euros for a focus type car for 8 days, the online offerings are less than half that amount but aren't clear as to where the vehicles are
If anyone has a recommendation I will be most grateful

This company compares companies and says if it's available on Terminal or shuttle bus

Take the shuttle to the resort and hire your car locally for about 35 euros a day, with no deposit needed, its what I did last week, why give the big names 1k euro's of your cash to hold, when you can pay no deposit and not really worry about the hire car that much as you would be doing with a large amount pre-authorised on your card.
I really is that simple and the transfers in all reality don't take that much longer and are hassle free, I used Driver rental but there are loads of local companies in Palma/Majorca.

http://www.palma-airport.info/car-hire-rent-a-car.htmlseems to list the companies who actually have desks at the airport - but others may act as front-ends for them, with them delivering the car itself.
Doesn't mean you won't need a shuttlebus to get to where the cars are actually located, of course.
We've used RecordGo twice from Palma airport. They are in the terminal and the cars are in the car park across the road from it along with all the bigger brands, Europcar, Avis etc.
We were after a smaller car, iirc a full comp insured, pre-fuelled Fiat 500 was around 180 EURO.
I can see the logic in a local rental and they are cheaper, but it depends on end destination. The last thing I could be bothered with after a flight to Mallorca with all the usual suspects would be 2 hours on a shuttle bus to Alcudia or similar. If the €25 taxi to Portals or Palma was an option then probably would consider local.

Thanks but I am travelling with a 6 month old baby so just want to walk from airport to car without shuttle bus to car compound
I'm not on a package so there is no bus transfer option, so back to the question:
Who can I rent from who has their compound at Palma airport
Thanks
Ok, you do know you can book transfers separately?, through Travel Republic or many other sites, there are big savings to be had if that matters I'm not on a package so there is no bus transfer option, so back to the question:

Thanks

You could, of course, have your missus and the baby wait at the airport while you go to collect the car, then pick them up from the terminal.I'm not on a package so there is no bus transfer option, so back to the question:

That link has phone numbers for the counters. I can think of an easy way to ask somebody who REALLY knows...I used Europcar at Palma last year.
They started out by attempting to pressure me into signing the known-damage form for the car in the baggage collection hall. i.e. before I was even in the same postcode as the car. After refusing repeatedly they backed down.
It was a good price and the car was in great as-new condition, but as we loaded next to the rental desk they pointed out a stone chip on the windscreen of another newly returned car and were screwing the German guy for 500 euros! They had teams of staff members wandering the lot looking out for defects.
We didn't get charged anything on return but I certainly was keeping far back on the motorway to avoid chips!

Do you actually want a car or just can't be bothered with buses to/from resort? We're going to Majorca with a 3 year old and taxicabmallorca.com is 136eur for a return trip to Cala d'or on the other side of the island, they have baby seats etc. You can also get bus transfers without being on a package deal.
We had a record go car last July pre booked in advance from the terminal which is a 5 minute walk, be wary we were given a battered fiesta with dents/scratches on every panel roof included and front tyres that seen better days, when I went back to get it swapped I had to go back inside to the terminal wasting more time only to be told they had no cars available, anyway they sent someone out to mark it all up and document the damage, and it started to overheat on the way to the resort which again they weren't interested in changing it.

Can recommend Terry's Car Hire. It won't be a brand spanking car you get. but you don't need to worry about scratches etc. Great service.
We rented a Ford Fusion from them last year. It was a little scratched and dinged, the car was clean and mechanically perfect though. No stupid deposit, queues, worrying about scratches, no pressure tactics, pickup and drop off within the main airport carpark.

Shuttles are not difficult - it's a 5 minute walk from the terminal, jump on a bus that probably isn't busy and pick up your car. Last used Wiber and I think it was 29 Euros for the entire week for a brand new Ford Ka+
I had a little issue about not taking their 112 Euro insurance which meant i was kept waiting but you pays your money...
Watch out for speed cameras.

I can also recommend Terry's car hire. Last year we hired two focus sized cars ,actually were Seats both were clean , good condition and mechanically perfect . Terry's were a little more expensive but the effortless collection ,lack of trying to sell us every type of unrequired insurance and NO QUEING was well worth it. You collect you car from the multi story car park which is by the airport arrivals door. Having hired a car the previous year though BA ‘s partner Avis arriving late at night in mainland Spain only to find the car was damaged on most panels i am happy to pay Terrys slightly hire price for no Hassle .
I rent cars from palma airport a minimum of 4times a year and have for the past 15 or so years, we have an apartment on Mallorca. My advice, don't go near the companies that have a desk at the airport. You will queue for ages to fill forms in then queue again to get your car. You will also be sold all sorts of add-ons. The start price might be 80euros a week but it won't stay like that. AVIS AND Hertz would be the exception but you'll pay for them!
I use...
Terrys
Vanrell
Autosroig
Terrys leave the car in the muti storey carpark and you just look for your name in the window, pay the carpark ticket and away you go. Vanrell and Roigs meet you on floor 4 and hand the keys over. Roigs also do a shuttle option, we've done this a few times and they are prompt and it takes 5 mins. Terrys tend to have older cars but never had a problem.
We had a problem this january with Roigs, brand new car broke down 100km into our use. We were caught in a dangerous situation and they had one of their guys there in 20mins with a new car. He transferred our shoping from the dud car to the new car and sent us on our way, he sorted out recovering the old car. It really was top class service! When we returned the car, we asked about the other one and it was an electronic fault, had to go back to the manufacturer (Citroen).
Hope that helps
