Iceland or Poland for holiday for family
Discussion
We're talking about our next summer holiday for 2017 and are current ideal destinations are either Iceland or Poland. I've been wanting to visit Iceland for years. Incredible landscape and amazing fishing. Poland is also of interest to us. A school friend worked over in Krakow for several years and loved it. Place is coming down with history. Need somewhere that is good for kids. We will have 3 kids with us, aged from 8 to 4 years old.
Has anybody here been as a family to these locations? We are looking at other locations too. Not America though as we are an American family living in the UK.

Your photos are stunning.
I think we will have to agree that Iceland is perhaps mainly for adults. Near every hotel we have looked at and the tourist attractions do seem a tad on the not really for kids side of life. We will go there when they are older.
Poland seems to have the winning ticket so far. Beautiful landscape.
I would like to maybe hire a car but not sure about driving in Europe. Never been before so not sure what to expect. Our ideal would be to holiday in Poland and then visit some other countries such as France, maybe Germany.

Never been to Poland but been to Iceland 3 times so far and plan to go back. I'd not really thought about it before but agree with the above posters that I've not seen many families there, and the majority of what we've done there is looking at scenery and walking which a lot of kids might find a bit boring.
As for cost, with the current state of the pound yes it's gone up, but prior to that it was expensive but not excessively so, restaurant prices were similar to London prices, fuel was about the same as the UK, but alcohol was very expensive. About half the people on the plane headed straight for the duty free shop

We took the Motorhome to Poland last year (wife, two kids 13 & 16), we stayed outside Torun (famous for gingerbread) and couldn't fault the place. Friendly people, roads are better than we expected (a lot of EU investment apparently) and once there, very cheap (diesel very cheap, eating out cheap). Came back through Czech republic and that was good too.
(we went to this area as there was a world meeting of 2CVs there, but I'm glad we did and we will go back again)

I loved Iceland, even if I didn't get time to fish as en famille. True, after a while the kids got blasé about the scenery, "Oh look, another lava field.....", but it is a very special place.
I went on a fishing holiday with friends in the NE of Poland, on the canal linked lakes of Masuria. Very beautiful, but hopeless fishing - the Poles have eaten them all! Don't go to Poland for the fishing!
