Any fellow London commuters know if the Zones 1-6 travelcard part of my paper season ticket can be added to an Oyster?

I can't get any sense out of either Google or the staff in the ticket offices on whether this can be done

With the amount of tube trips I do, I find that the paper ticket wears out rapidly, despite how careful I am - it would be much easier to tap

I know that the gold card can be added to the Oyster to give discount on off peak fares - which I clearly don't need as I have a travelcard!

A solution is to buy the ticket in two parts.

If you are travelling from 'some town' and have a 'some town' to London Travelcard, instead buy a 'some town' to (for example) zone 4 Travelcard, which will cover your journey up to the boundary between zone 3 and 4. The also buy a zone 1 to 3 Travelcard, but buy it on Oyster which covers your journey from the zone 3 and 4 boundary onewards.

This is permitted as it meets the National Conditions of Carriage that the two tickets can be used for a single journey (condition 19a that both are zonal tickets - http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/static/documents/con...

And if you play around with the split point of zones, you may find that it is slightly cheaper. On my line, splitting at zones 4/3 is £320 a year cheaper than buying one ticket.

However be prepared for ticket inspectors who don't understand.
