Thinking about visiting the above as part of a city break with my better half in a few weeks. Never been to anything similar, so wondered if it or the London one are actually any good for a late 30s couple with no kids. Tripadvisor reviews are mostly positive, but what does Pistonheads think?

TIA...

I've been to London in the last year and was good fun.
I assume York is similar. \the actors stay in character and it's quite interactive. London had some jump scares plus facts and figures. I'd go back.

We are 40 somethings with kids (who didn't come as it would have terrified them)

Mrs BR and I went...I say "went" Mrs BR got as far as the entrance door and baulked at the "authentic aromas" and didnt even make it as far as the ticket counter!

IIRC - Didn't it flood last year?

Second vote for NRM...brilliant.

Isn't that the Jorvik Viking Centre?

It did flood as we nearly went at Easter. No idea if it has reopened yet though.

The York Dungeon was pretty good the last time I went. Lots of viking stuff, Roman ghosts, plaguery and Dick Turpin receiving his suspended sentence. The 'smell pots' are probably more acceptable than a night bus.

NRM definitely the place to visit in York, we go every time we're there.

Yes, dungeon is good, bit pricey though.

NRM is free and can easily soak up a few hours.

if you've no kids plenty of nice pubs too.

I need to go back to York and explore a bit more as the only time I went, I spent the whole day in the NRM and its reading room. (Yes, I am a train geek.)

If you want to be scared ....
You need to do the York Ghost walk ... I took my then GF and it was really really good. Lots of ghost stories, stories about the vikings etc.
I did a quick google, and there now appears to be quite a few. The one we did was a single chap who lurked out the dark and took us on his way.

I won't say why, but the story about Mr Pitts was horrid !
