Hotel in Bangkok
Discussion
Hi, heading to Bangkok with my girlfriend in January, it will be about our 7th visit and we've normally stayed in hostels and budget accommodation but we'd like a hotel this time with a swimming pool.
We're in our 30's and like a party so we want to be in the Khoa San Rd / Soi Rambuttri / Samsen Rd area but not right on a busy street.
We've gone through Agoda and Booking.com etc but nothing is really grabbing us.
Staying for 5 nights, must have A/C and a Pool, budget up to about £35.00 per night..
Anyone have any personal recommendations?
Cheers..
Nouvo City hotel is nice enough, clean quiet, just off Samsen Rd on Samsen 2 about 10 minute walk to the Khaosan. It's kind of in the heart of backpacker, without being very backpacker if you get me. Only down side is it does not serve booze! Saying that there are bars literally opposite the door, so not a huge deal, for me at least.

Fortville guest house is in the same area, not stayed there but it has a cool rooftop bar, and looked nice on the way up to the rooftop bar

I stay at this place more or less every time I am in Bangkok. Reasonably priced, lovely rooftop pool and great location (on the river just off the back of Soi Rambuttri). We're in our 30's and like a party so we want to be in the Khoa San Rd / Soi Rambuttri / Samsen Rd area but not right on a busy street.

Thanks for the Navalai suggestions, we also know this place well, we stayed there a couple of years ago, managed to get a really good deal somehow for about half the usual price.. at £70+ a night now it's more than we want to spend (£30-£35), our holiday is going to be 3-4 weeks so need to budget a bit, as much as we want something comfortable and ideally with a pool but away from Khoa San Rd, we'd rather spend money on experiences than fancy accommodation where we're not really going to be spending a lot of time.. but we've traveled plenty and know what comforts we want..
Have just found this.. it is still more than what we wanted to pay but does look pretty good value.. Bangkok Hotel

As with virtually everywhere in Thailand, you'd usually get a much better price not booking online and just turning up with your bags and you'll get a much better rate paying cash on arrival, it's just the risk of there being availability.. normally when we travel for a few months we would book just the first night somewhere and then just go out on foot to find the best deal, this time it's more of a holiday so don't want to mess around too much changing hotels, but maybe book one night and negotiate the rate there for the remaining nights at the same place...
I used to stay regularly at the Silom Serene on Soi Pipat just off Silom Road so full of the hustle and bustle a few mins away but really quiet. Also a short walk to the BTS skytrain as well. They have a reasonable pool and steam room etc... as well as a decent breakfast
As a plus there is a lady makes the best Roti I have had in Thailand just at the junction of Soi Pipat and Silom Road for 30bht ... its just to die for
