Looking for a quiet family orientated location Costa Blanca

We were due to fly out to Alicante this September to stay with a family member but due to unforeseen circumstances this is no longer possible. As we have the flights we're weighing options of where to stay for a week. We'll have our 15 month old with us, considered spending sometime in Valencia and then a beach type resort but will probably just keep it simple and stick to one area and do some day trips (plan to hire a car). There seem to be a number of areas north of Benidorm which fit the bill, Calpe, Moraira, Javea etc. Would like to keep the airport transfer <1.5hrs.

Ideally something as far removed from Benidorm, as possible, quiet, good selection of restaurants, beaches, some decent walks etc.

Catral is pretty chilled out and a short drive to the busier spots round this way.

We are in Moraira for 5 weeks at the moment, and this year is the 17th holiday we have spent here.

Love the place so much we bought a house in 2000.

Moraira is quiet, clean and there is an excellent choice of restaurants to suit your mood and budget.

The Beacges are award winning.

80kms/1 hour from Alicante on the AP7 Junction 63.

Thanks for this, can you comment on potential pros and cons locations? We're looking at Air bnb places at the moment, if you know of any rentals personally would be great.

Personally I am not familiar with rentals, but will have pop into one of the estate agents in town and see what they have to offer.

Locations are well served by Central Taxis (Tel: [phone]) and we are in Paichi which is 10 minutes from town/approx. 8.00 Euros each way.

If you head further in land, say 20 minutes from Moraira, the cost of rentals (I believe) are lower, and Villotel/La Sabatera are very pleasant.

Thanks for this, seems pretty reasonable to be close to the beach/town centre from what I've seen. Think it's a goer just need to sort some accommodation.

[Unexpected Item In The Bagging Area]

+1 for Moraira, it's the nicest town in the area with everything you could want for a family holiday. Java and Altea are good alternatives, and Cala Fustera is my favourite beach near Moraira.

We're about 1hr 20m away from moraira (currently in catral). Would you guys recommend it for a day out rather than heading the other way toward guadamar/torrevieja.

Catral is a non tourist oriented village so after some tips for a few places to visit. We have a great pool and garden but need a few days out at the beach.

Have a look at Estepona, it's very quiet and Spanish. Not much for kids to do mind so that may rule it out for you.

I love Agua Amarga, however this only has a couple of restaurants. But a lovely, quiet, safe family beach and brilliant walks in the surrounding Cabo de Gato National Park. Mojacar is the nearest bigger resort which would give you more restaurant choices, (except Carboneras, which is a little bit spoiled by a big cement factory on the the southern end of the beach).

Agua Amarga is a real hidden gem on the Spanish mainland, not many other places like it. About as close to "unspoiled" as it comes. Been 3 times myself with small children.

Should probably add that there's a beach called Agua Amarga in Alicante itself, right next to Alicante airport. This isn't the Agua Amarga I'm talking about. My one is a remote fishing village nearer Almeria, but still easily reachable from Alicante airport, with a hire car.

I like Calp and Javea and while Moraira is nice, it is very touristy.

For future reference, it is well worth doing what I often do which is flying to Barcelona and driving 2 hours south to Peniscola. It's a brilliant resort and far enough away from airports that you don't get excess tourists.

I am not a huge fan of the Costa Blanc's because there are too many tourists there.

Agreed that it is busy during the tourist/U.K. school holiday season (busiest I have seen for many years with more Dutch and French here), but out of the main holiday season it quiets down.

Girona on Costa Brava is pleasant we stay one night each way en route south.

Try HMR villas in Moraira. Ian the MD was our contact. We have been to Javea many times but booked one of the villas he had on his books at short notice. It was on the outskirts of Moraira on a hill opposite Global Car Sales (if you know the area). We drove to Javea most nights it took 10 mins.

To close the thread out we've just returned from Morira. We stayed in an ABNB place a couple of minutes walk to the beach. Lovely little town and ideal for us, loads of restaurants, quiet and clean beach, good base for a few trips, enjoyed Guadalest. Took us ~1hr on the toll road from Alicante. Would recommend it.
