A mate of mine is visiting UK this week and I plan to take him out for a day trip by car from (starting either from South London or Guildford)

Can you point me some places of interest for a day trip and preferably the travel time should be averaging around 2 hrs

Guildford to Portsmouth (through the Hindhead Tunnel, of course) - and then up the Spinnaker and a meal overlooking the docks.

What is your mate going to enjoy?
You have a city and some stunning coastline suggested.
If they like history and buildings then there is Stonehenge followed by a meal at a traditional village such as castle Combe.

Stonehenge is on the way to the Haynes Motor Museum. (Being a car based site & all that biggrin)

Better still, take him into the Historic Dockyard to see the Mary Rose Exhibition!

Chatham Historic Dockyard, did the trip a few years ago with a visiting family they thought it brilliant. A few minutes up the road is a Gin distillery that does guided tours.

Warrior, Victory and Mary Rose are all worth a visit, and as mentioned above the Spinnaker tower for a meal, there's some lovely roads between there and Guildford too, potentially including the Lurgashall Winery.

Tank museum at Bovington might be a bit too far for your 2 hour time limit?

Sammy Millers motorbike museum and of course Beaulieu in the New Forrest

Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop

If the Haynes museum at Sparkford isn't too far, then you've also got the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton.
