So my current contract has ended up with me spending most week nights in a cheap hotel in Bridlington on the east coast, said hotel has terrible internet, a minuscule tv and a bed that would be considered inhospitable by that piss drinking scout botherer who’s always on the goggle box.

Now I’m starting to get a little bored of tugging on the old party sausage and the coke and hookers in this part of the country are leaving a lot to be desired, so any suggestions for ways to entertain myself in the evenings, small projects I could do in the room etc? Sadly we have regular, random drugs and alcohol screenings on site so I can’t even lessen the boredom that way.

When stuck in similar I find that I:

Swim a lot at the local pool
Go to the driving range (normally have at least a few gold clubs in the boot)
Buy a build a lot of Lego sets
Go to the cinema
Volunteer with a local group (I’ve always been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme)

I always try to use it as a reason to get fit - council gym and pools arw always good value. However i usually end up drinking way too much scotch and bingeing on netflix.

I stayed down there Monday-friday for a good few months about 3 years ago. Its pretty grim down there with not a lot to do

However, the new leisure centre facility is great so you could probably mix it up with going swimming/gym a few nights a week. Just a shame thats what I was actually working on whilst there so didn't have the privilege of using it.

Other than that the pubs are pretty dire, a poor old fella had a heart attack in the harbour tavern toilets and wasn't found until the next morning when we had been in! Weatherspoons as usual full of the local p*ssheads from dinner time onwards.

Explore other random towns nearby?
Local club or hobby of some kind? Football 5-a-side, rugby etc? (most will let you train for free just to swell numbers on training night)

For very similar reasons, I started to learn magic. Downloaded a few tutorials and bought a book. I've found the process incredibly absorbing and can easily loose several hours practicing and learning and when you master a trick and show it to someone, is really cool; sense of self satisfaction!

If that tickles your fancy, here's a good place to start: https://www.artofmagic.com

You can always sniff the glue and self-harm with the knife when bored.

I'm stuck in Hotel El Cheapo or Hotel Sur la Merde a couple of nights a week in that London. I usually end up working pretty late anyway, but I upped my phone contract to include a big chunk of data so I can merrily stream a film from iPlayer or Amazon Prime if I want to zone out. If I was in the sticks, I'd shove some running shoes in my bag, but I'd prefer to stick them up my 'arris than run around Bloomsbury.

Portable hobbies needing little kit? Knitting, embroidery, maybe pick-pocketing or brawling in pubs?

I think some posters may have underestimated a singe word in the original post.... "Bridlington"

An unbearably deseperate place, with absolutely fk all of interest. I have family there so we visit a couple of times a year.

The best advice I can give is to find another job...
