Wasn't sure where to post this, so apologies if its in the wrong place. I am off to a concert in May at a venue called The Haunt in Brighton, it looks to be near the pier. I know that Brighton is very anti car with the incumbent Green Party and parking is awful in and around the city, can anyone offer up any advice as to best places to park, somewhere near the pier? Thanks in advance.

The Church Street NCP (sometimes referred to as the Theatre car park) sometimes has evening deals, similarly Churchill Square used to, and maybe still does. It's worth looking online at the various current tariffs. Depending on what time you're arriving in Brighton there may be on-street parking, which is generally metered until 8pm. If you want the nearest car park, that'll be the one in Black Lion Street, which is called The Lanes car park.

I park at southwick station and get the train for 5-10 mins

Much easier than pissing about

Depends on times, engineering works, which direction you are coming from etc

Withdean Stadium is a free park and ride site, so if you're here for the whole day then it may be the cheapest option. It'll be about £12 in a cab to get back to the stadium if you return late.

Otherwise, London Road car park is your best bet and is easily walkable from the Pier in about 20 minutes. It does evening and overnight deals and is about half the cost of the properly central ones like The Lanes or the Theatre (both of which are silly expensive)

Assuming this is an evening event, on street parking on Madeira drive is pay and display until 8 then free currently. Depending on how quickly the council get approval to change the road layout by the pier that may still be there, just search of Madeira drive parking and you will see if it’s still operating.

It’s a short walk along the seafront to the haunt then.

If you are looking for cheaper then it’s free parking at the marina but a slightly longer walk or bus ride in

Parking has always been terrible in Brighton, it's nothing much to do with the Green Party. It's a densely populated area stuck between the sea and the South Downs, there's simply little space available for anything.

^ What he said. I completely failed to take into account the 8pm cut off!

Taking that into account, my suggestions are really only much use if you plan to get tanked up and stay overnight and not have to worry about moving the car by 8am!

Went to a gig at the Dome in Brighton recently and the driver insisted on using a multi-storey carpark. It took us about 45 minutes to get out!

I'd recommend Madeira Drive; easy walking distance to The Haunt and no problem with traffic at that time of night.

Parked in the suburbs near a main road with lots of busses into town a couple of times, bus takes about 10 mins (use street view to see where the permit zone ends and there's lots of space) although I gather there's a park and ride now.

I think the only P&R is at Withdean Stadium (referred to above). Many people in the know simply park on the outskirts and catch a (frequent) bus in.

Thanks for the replies. It is an evening event and I aim to get to Brighton for around 4ish so I can grab a bite to eat and a beer before heading to the concert

Used to live in Brighton and still go there a fair bit (from Kent) - I always park in the Regency Square underground carpark opposite the old/derelict pier and BA i360 err, pole.

https://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/content/parking-a...

if Brighton centre is busy you can follow the last exit at the main roundabout off the a23 (BP garage) under the railway arch alongside the A27 and then it's a fairly straight route to the car park via Dyke road (no pun intended) and bypasses most of the town-centre traffic on a busy day.

it may not be the cheapest car park but it's secure, usually has spaces and is <10min walk to the town centre and usually some spaces that mean your car is safe from people who can't open their car doors carefully.

Churchill Square is also an option if you're going there after peak hours (otherwise typically a long queue).. but in my experience you need to go down to the ground floor if you want a chance of a space with more than 1" of space to open the doors.

Last time I went to Brighton mid week and middle of the day it cost me £27.50 for 3 hours parking I recall. Next time it's the P&R for me!

That's steep even by Brighton standards! Where on earth did you do that?!

It was somewhere near The Pavilion, and wife and I went to an art exhibition nearby. I seem to recall that if you got into that car park before a time round about 08:00am and left after 17:30 then it was about £5 for the day. This car park seemed to be specifically designed for people who worked nearby.

Sounds like the Theatre car park. It's horrendous. My friend has a season pass for it which makes it fairly reasonable, but I'd hate to pay my own money to park there!

Brighton is a city that rewards some research into parking options that's for sure!

Sounds like Church Street during the day - pigging expensive!!

Have parked there during the day and it would have been bleedin cheaper to leave it on the street and risk a ticket!

Fortunately I now have the option of a space in the Old Steine or undercover near the station

Lanes car park can work out quite expensive after a few hours - personally I would suggest Madeira Drive and pay up till 8pm and then it free (not entirely sure how many hours you can pay for in one go) though

Churchill Square car park is £4.50 if you enter after 6pm and leave by midnight.

Top Brighton parking tip here.

There is a multi story car park under Jurys Inn Hotel which is on the seafront just along the road from the pier and backing onto the Lanes, entry is from the side road just to the West of the hotel.

Go down to level -2 or 4 and go up to the hotel in the dedicated lift, you can get straight out to the Lanes or the seafront from there and your concert venue should not be too far away.

When you come back go to the reception desk and pay for your parking there, they give you a 10% discount and you do NOT have to be staying in the hotel to get that.
