Areas to Stay in Paris/Areas to Avoid - Hotel/Airbnb
Discussion
Hi All
Booking a long weekends stay for my parents Big Anniversary in June.
Keen to not book a hotel/Air Bnb in an area that is dodgy or dangerous. Is downtown one of those places for instance?
Close to the City Centre would be idea.
Any suggestions of areas to focus on or avoid very much welcome
Thanks in advance

Central Paris is generally fine, with no really bad areas. The suburbs, well, that's different - as above, St Denis is not too pleasant for example, but that shouldn't impact you as you don't need to stay that far out. IMO best areas to stay are likely the Latin Quarter, St Germain or the Marais, the latter two being somewhat upmarket. Probably the only place centrally I'd avoid would be Bercy, but that's just because there's nothing there. There are some areas which are more night-life oriented (Pigalle, Bastille, etc), which you may wish to avoid if you're not that way inclined. Not unsafe per se, more rowdy/noisy, etc.
Sadly, the migrant situation there is still somewhat fluid and 'camps' can pop up and disappear with a degree of regularity - there used to be a huge camp not far from Stalingrad Metro, not sure if it's still there as I haven't been that way for a while. These camps are VERY dangerous and often not policed at all - easily avoided though, google will flag up any that still remain. The very central and 'touristy' areas tend not to be impacted by this, and it's a relatively safe city with very few areas that need to be avoided fully.

Do they really need to stay central?
Whenever we go we stay at the Mercure Paris Centre Tour Eiffel. About 2 mins from the tower and if you book the right type of room you get a tower view.
Handy for the boats on the river, the city tour buses etc too. Plus the bus to / from the airport stops nearby. Plenty of typically overpriced bistros nearby too.
Ideal IMO.
