I'm currently planning 10 days in and around Croatia in mid Sept. Plan is to fly to Pisa on Friday 13th, pick up the bikes from Prato, spend Saturday in Italy then take a ferry from Ancona to Zagreb arriving Croatia on the morning of Sunday 15th. Bikes to be back in Prato early on the 23rd so we can catch the afternoon flight home. We're thinking about riding around Croatia for a few days then returning to Italy through Slovenia.

Does anyone have any recommendations for routes, places to go, things to do, where to stay?

Istria's worth a visit. Lots of wine, hilltop medieval villages, that sort of thing. Depending on what you like the villages worth visiting are Motovun and Groznjan but if you want cities try Rovinj and Pula. Further south Zadar and Trogir are again worth a look and Plitvice Lakes are also worth making time although it can get stupidly busy.

If you get that far south, then the road up Sveti Jure is quite interesting!

I’m interested to hear how the ferry will get to Zagreb!

Steep/narrow/rough. Meant to be worth it for the view though

Haha. Meant Zadar obviously.
