My lad an I are currently over in Normandy, visiting the beaches and generally having a cracking road trip.

We’re scheduled to come back from Cherbourg to Portsmouth on Friday night’s Brittany Express Fastcat (colloquially known as “the vomit comet”.

However, it appears there’s a fly in the ointment...

Having raced yachts in some pretty serious offshore races for many years and seen some big seas, I’m pretty hardy when it comes to a bit of breeze and a bumpy ride, but I suspect we may be enjoying an extra night in a Campanile at the last minute.. yikes

...Which takes four hours, ran aground a few years ago & dumps you forty years ago in Newhaven. I'd take my chances.

It’s still forecast to be 40kts or so in Newhaven on Friday evening. Not sure I’d fancy that on a ferry

I’ve booked a cheap hotel in Cherbourg with cancellation up to 6pm Friday (and it’s only £50 if we no-show), so we may have an extra night ahead of us!!

Plus, we’re in our Mustang and I didn’t realise 95RON was €1.48 / litre over here yikes Driving anywhere is costing me a fortune!!!

You’ve not addressed the main point, it drops you in Newhaven which is basically Satan’s ahole.

I do believe it was humour.

And getting anywhere from newhaven is an absolute bk because it’s nowhere near a motorway. I know because I grew up 3 miles from there and regularly have to drive around the area.

Wow ,Newhaven to the A27 takes about 12 minutes.

Is your chosen mode of transport a Penny Farthing ?

The A27. Are you serious? Easily one of the worst roads in south. I live just outside Southampton and my parents just outside Bexhill it took 3hrs last time. 80 miles most of on the bloody A27

That’s the plan. I have to fly to Taipei on Monday evening for work, so as long as I’m back by about Monday lunchtime, all is good.

We’ve had an epic time so far and visited Point du Hoc, Arromanches, St Mere Eglise, Maisy Battery, Omaha Beach, La Cambe German cemetery, American cemetery and Overlord Museum. We only got here yesterday lunchtime!!! Tomorrow is Pegasus Bridge and Caen Memorial.

Haha and all of it basically. Lewes gets snarled up because people love to crash on the Kingston roundabout too
