I would assume you would have to isolate. You will be interacting with people in that country.
Also why would you risk adding in complications when theres so many direct flights. Even if you need to fly from somewhere else in the uk to get to your prefered airport in portugal it would be safer just now.

I fondly imagine myself to be a bit slippery, I don’t go out of my way to “sock it to the man”, but I’m not averse to bending the law a bit.
However, I wouldn’t have the moxie to do what a friend of mine did this past Friday evening.
He’s been in Portugal for three weeks, and was flying back on Friday evening, 21/08/20, due into Heathrow around 23.00.
The cut off time to land and not have to quarantine was 04.00 on Saturday, 22/08/20.
I called him today, and during the conversation he said something about going to work on Monday.
I asked him if he didn’t have to quarantine, and if not, why not.
He said that when he and his wife checked in at Faro, the B.A. staff gave him a form to fill in, with names, address, phone number etc. for track and trace, he was told to give it in on landing in U.K.
He said that he put it in his wife’s bag, not filled in, landed 5 minutes early, went through the biometric passport automatic check, strolled down to baggage claim, took the bus to the long term car park, and drove home to Peckham.
One of my kids flew back from Faro the same day, getting in around 21.30 Friday night, so he and his family are isolating, he said, “Good luck to your pal dad, I wouldn’t have tried it.”
However, I wouldn’t have the moxie to do what a friend of mine did this past Friday evening.

Not saying I agree with what his friend has done, but you know that going to Portugal (or France, or Belgium, or... ) doesn't actually guarantee you will get Covid?Hope your son isnt too bored or ill when doing the right thing
Why increase the risk for the sake of some sun?
Its not just his lost wages its the wages/jobs of the entire site/area that gets shut down for his selfishness if he has covid.

I think you're missing the overall point that's being made. Portugal was added to the safe list starting 4:00am on Saturday - arrive home before then and you're quarantining - arrive home after then, and you're not.Its not just his lost wages its the wages/jobs of the entire site/area that gets shut down for his selfishness if he has covid.

What actual difference do you think it makes to your changes of being infectious if you arrive home on the Friday, vs. if you arrive home on the Saturday afternoon. I'm not a statistician, but I would think there are a billion other factors more important in determining the outcome.
