Quarantine your experiences

Currently Quarantined in Manila and finding it pretty tough. I thought staying in a hotel room for 7 days wouldn’t be too bad, but it’s bloody murder.
I have a decent view and get three semi decent meals a day but it’s such a drag. I have never experienced boredom like this in my life.
I have internet access and have downloaded fils and books but it’s just soul destroying.
Anyone have any interesting or funny stories of being in quarantine?

Why are you in Manila in the first place?
Not trying to provoke an argument, but other than work I can't see the justification for going there? Were you aware of this quarantine restriction before you left?
I'm keen to have a holiday, as is probably the entire country at this point, but not so keen that I'd want to burn however many of my holiday days stuck in a hotel with whatever I have left spent under whatever lockdown restrictions are in place there.

I've been through multiple sets of quarantines now. Yes, travelling for work is essential.
South Africa was ok, hotel complex hired by the company I work for, so it was 2 days confinement (apart from balcony area) then the remaining we could walk around the grounds of the compound and get fresh air without restriction.
Doha, Qatar in early Jan. Full week in the max security quarantine hotel. Not allowed outside, was same as you, thought I was going to go mental in there. They even came at 1am to do a PCR test because I had checked in at 1am the previous day.
Second week in Doha wasn't so bad as it was 'self isolation' before coming to the work site. Qatar has it sorted properly though, they have an app that you have to show everywhere you want to enter. Has a colour coded QR code so they can scan it.

Haven't had to do it yet thankfully. But yes, 10-14 days either side of travelling is pants. Still, it's work when I know a lot of people still sitting at home. I was for 10 months last year waiting on work starting. t it must be to have to do 10 days in a holiday in in Aberdeen.
Being ex-forces, i so laugh at all the "isolation/quarantine is so tough" comments.
Not a personal dig just in general.
Try going on a submarine patrol for up to 3 months at a time with no sunlight, no live TV, no phone, no internet, DVD's you've already watched etc etc. Only incoming is two "text message length" familygram messages a week.
Only plus side is we have people to talk to, some gym gear and you are working half the time which makes it go quicker.
I'm sure ex-army lads will have similar stories of being stuck in st in a field somewhere for 2 weeks to make it seem even worse. lol
They used to tell us "civvies ares" and "civvies pay thousands for this". I suspect civvies wouldn't pay thousands as most couldn't cope with no internet or tv for a while.
Joking aside I am sure your suffering is genuine and we should all respect the "individual sacrifice" you have made. lol

I think the biggest difference is that you made a conscious decision to go, probably looked forward to doing it with a fair bit of training before you went. Not a personal dig just in general.

That and you’re not doing it in isolation because there are other people there. I’m not saying I’d want to live in a fart filled tube under the waves for 3 months at a time but at least you could interact with other aquatic mole people.Hotel quarantine appears to be more akin to solitary confinement in prison. Some countries you get a really fancy prison cell and in the U.K. you can get the Thistle at Heathrow which has apparently modelled its accommodations on Wormword Scrubs.

I wasn't in a 'fart tube' submarine, but once you've signed up for 3 years, you are property of the military, so have no choice regarding personal freedoms. 10 days in a Holiday Inn is grim though.....Working overseas, means I just stay out here longer. I started on 4wks on 4wks off, then went 6/2 to save a bit of cash, 10/2 when the downturn hit then last year was 10 months. Looking at 6 or 7 months this trip.
2 wks isolation when you've got 4 wks or so off isn't worth doing, might aswell stay longer and have 2 months off. Guess we've all had to change the way we work.
