Parking near Manchester Piccadilly

Maybe not the right section, but the NW forum had very little activity...
Am off to Manchester for NYE, to somewhere close to Manchester Piccadilly. Is there a good train station to park at and get the train in, or am I best to find parking near Piccadilly itself? Will need about 24 hours worth, and it doesnt appeal to pay £20 for parking if I can get the train in from somewhere en route. Coming up the M6, so Stockport etc are not unreasonable.

I always park at the Piccadilly Plaza Q Park when getting the train, it’s secure and convenient but will cost about £20. But it’s with work so it’s on expenses.
Or try one of the NCPs, they do a cheaper weekend rate, £5 a day, but I don’t know about overnight.
Try Parkopedia, put in your start and finish times and it’ll tell you the cost of car parks.

Piccadilly Station long stay parking is £21 for up to 24 hours, so parking close to your destination may not be that unreasonable if the train ticket is the same amount (or if you've got passengers)!
I think a day return from Stockport to Manchester is about £5, but might be double that to return on another day.
However, parking at Stockport station (at Stockport Exchange Long Stay, opposite the station) is still £17.50 (£16 if you pay/book via NCP ParkPass app) for up to 24 hours. Of course you may be able to find on-street parking for free.

Parkopedia says £21 for the Q Park. The Store Street car park is £7.95 but this is open air, not very secure.
On street parking may be an option depending on your timing, it’s free after 8pm to 8am. Around the Northern Quarter it’s £1 an hour, park up at 6, £1 will take you to 8pm then bung a couple of quid on for the morning?

There's a Council car park on Sheffield Street. It's £3.80 a day but during weekdays it's full by 7am because it's used by nearby workers and also by people taking the early train to London.Am off to Manchester for NYE, to somewhere close to Manchester Piccadilly. This is the one I used. Very good location, very cheap. 
Had the trains been running I would have probably taken that, but there was a strike by rail staff.

A great night thank you. Didn't hear that many Scottish accents but there was at least one coach from Hamilton, so that had come over the border. Makes you wonder why anyone bothers with masks in shops when you see 10,000 people in 1 nightclub squashed in like sardines, no masks, no nothing, and makes a total mockery of Scotland and Wales' policies. Plenty of Scottish about like the BBC would like us to believe?
