On Monday I booked to go skiing with Mrs Spydaman leaving this Saturday. This morning our daughter who lives with us but is not coming skiing tested positive for covid. We've tested and both come back clear. We're both double vccinated and boosted so don't need to self-isolate. Both feel fine with no symptoms. According to the small print we can re-schedule free of charge if we test positive by PCR. Our insurance covers less than half the cost. The snow is really good and the weather is sunny next week. Do we go or not.

I expect many, many people in your position wouldn't even consider it an issue.

There is only so far you can go with precautions IMO. Obviously if before then you get symptoms etc, then the plan changes.

A while ago I’d have been cautious worrying about what happens if you develop it out there etc

But at some point we need to get back to normal


What are the rules now where you are going if you get it / returning home, ie do you need to think about taking a laptop to work from a hotel?

If we didn’t have a toddler I’d happily travel abroad on holiday, just couldn’t stand a week or whatever of isolation with screaming two year old in a hotel

Absolutely go.

If possible to escape the house asap though then do so, purely to prevent you getting it and it stopping you from going. It is strange though it seems to come in to a house and only infect one person there.

Is your daughter ok ?
If this was 3 years ago in a world pre covid and your daughter had a Strong cold / Flu would you still have gone away?

I’m not worried about my Daughter as she young and fit (no pics). She even ran 5k yesterday before she tested positive. My main concern is if we test positive while we’re away.

Might be more important to know what are the rules in the country you're going to?

I believe the declaration we had to complete last year (for France) was that we hadn't been in contact with anyone who'd had covid in the last 14 days...

I haven't claimed it is/was enforceable or checkable...just pointing out that rules may be different in the country being visited.

It's up to the individual as to how honest they want to be!

We are both jabbed and boosted which is all we need to get into Austria and don’t need a PLF to come back after 11th Feb. As long as we still both test negative on the day we are going. If we test positive we can re-book free of charge so no problem there it’s just if we come down with it while we are there and have to self isolate.

Been testing regularly and don’t seem to have caught it so sat in the departure lounge waiting board the flight to Innsbruck.

Surely you'll have to do the same in that case whether your daughter had come down with it or not?
What's your plan if you catch it from someone when you're there?

I think you may still need to complete a PLF to come back - it’s just the testing requirement that has changed

So we went skiing and had a great time. We hadn't caught it before we went and didn't catch it while we were there but got pinged the day after we got back. Been testing every day but seem to be ok. Not surprised really as there was about 1000 people trying to check in at Innsbruck.
