Myself and the good wife will be celebrating 10 years married next year.

We would love to go away to celebrate it, without the children, which is why it is only 4 days. We have never left the children before, so this will be an experience in itself!

As it is only 4 days, we are thinking a short flight, so possibly staying in Europe?

We both love good food and drink, and relaxation, some sort of spa type hotel things sounds good, as does a nice city break. We have done Barcelona, and loved it, but don't really want to go back for our 10 years, would like somewhere new.

Budget, could stretch to £6k for the 4 days, which is a ridiculous amount of money, but then hopefully you only celebrate 10 years once!

So any ideas from anyone well travelled, who may have done similar?

Lisbon for the food and drink - it's next on my list. Rick Stein raved about it on his "Long Weekend" program and everyone I know who has been there has really enjoyed it.

Paris is a beautiful city to visit, great food and museums and the centre is lovely to stroll around.

Stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés and you can walk everywhere you need to get.

San Sebastian.

The Lasala Plaza Hotel will collect you from Bilbao airport (and take you back there).

The food and drink options are endless and the quality is outstanding.

The town has a total of 17 Michelin stars - but even without that the food is fabulous.

Enjoyed Lisbon and Porto earlier this year, would recommend either (and you won't need all of that 6k!)

Budapest is a lovely city.
Took the mrs there (sans kids) for a 4 day holiday.
Not too far to travel, great food, nice wines, spa, bit of history, easy to walk around.

You won’t need the full 10k

Having just been, I’d second this.

I like Bruges, but get bored after a couple of days.

Seville is better

We have just booked a night in Galway, night on Inis Mor, night in Galway for our 7th anniversary at the end of November, slightly under your budget.

What time of year, and where are you flying from? - connections can add a lot of travel time on a short trip.

Porto, it's a fantastic city if you are into food and drink.
Stay in the eurostars Porto Douro and ask for a room overlooking the river.

You'll have plenty of change from your budget too.

With that amount of money you could both go to different places, and really have a good time

Plus 1 for this. And flight times. Aim to arrive midday ish, time in day one to settle in and enjoy and get your bearings.. flight home after lunch, so relaxing breakfast last day.

Due to where I live we go from Birmingham at a time that suits us, destination is almost secondary. Done loads but, Malta, Crete, Cyprus, Madrid, Venice/Jeselo, Portugal, Amsterdam, Bruge etc all amazing and special.
