Off to Berlin for a few days next week, any tips, tricks or advice... restaurants or attractions?

This will pretty much be my first time in Germany.

The free walking tour is a must, like most city destinations.

The modern architecture by the river behind the Parliament building is impressive and ascending the dome is worth booking ahead for.

DeKeWe has a fabulous food hall and some great, if expensive shopping.

Apart from having some Pandas, the zoo is exactly the sort of place that gives zoos a bad reputation.

We went to a traditional pub / restaurant and had to book, but it was worth the wait for a very filling traditional meal and some great beer. Sadly, I cant find its name, but I imagine that there are others.

Unlike Vienna, it is not a city that we will return to.

Do the Trabant Tour, did the 1 1/2 hr one, the guide who you follow takes you to most of the sights and explains a lot

Really enjoyed our trip. Like an above post we stayed at Alexanderplatz and it was a good spot although not the most picturesque. The TV tower is near there and we’ll worth a visit as is walking around the Reichstag (spelling?) and Brandenberg Gate (spelling??). The holocaust memorial is very moving the museum beneath it well worth a visit. Public transport excellent. A bus tour shows you the sights and you can get off and on again. Train in from the airport is easy and cheap. Almost everyone speaks English. Enjoy!

I was there for a week at the end of Sep.

The highlight for me was Vabali Spa (I went twice in one week). It's a short walk from Berlin Hauptbahnhof. You can easily spend four or more hours there relaxing, trying all the different saunas, pools, relaxation areas, cafe, restaurant, and enjoying the scenery... As you may know, in Germany you need to be prepared to be fully naked in this spa (men and women together), so as long as you're fine with that, it's great. Suitable for couples, singles, and friends of all ages. Best not to go at the weekend though, as it can get very busy.

A little too weird for me, shame everyone wants to cut about with their bits out. Odd bunch.

Museums and cultural stuff in the morning.

This place for Currywurst and beer at lunchtime. Was nice outside on the bank of the Spree a month ago - might be chilly now.

As suggested above, it's well worth getting the ticket for the underground system.

Numerous sightseeing tours by bus to see all the main sights if you're a bit short of time.
Hundreds of cafes and clubs, some underground.

I been a couple of times and really enjoyed the visits. I shall go again and do the guided tours next time.

If you have any interest in trains the Berlin U-bahn is just great.

Do a tour of Templehof Airport (they do English speaking tours) - thoroughly interesting way to spend a couple of hours in an absolutely fascinating place. You even get to go up on the roof and see how Hitler used to do his rallies, with people stood on the roof. The whole building is dripping with magnificent Art Deco architecture.
