Car rental from Palma airport Mallorca
Discussion
Does anyone who’s rented a car at Palma airport want to comment on their rental experience good or bad?
I’ve done it once recently and the shambolic ‘queue’ to get my returned car forensically examined for the slightest issue by nazis really put me off the budget end of things.

Used to have an apartment and rented cars multiple times per year for about 15 years but not rented in the last couple of years.
When we rented the answer was:
Autosroig
Vanrell
Terrys
Hiper
Vanrell and Terrys you pick the car up in the carpark, the rest are a short mini bus ride away. Of the other big names Centauro weren't bad.
Don't touch the desks in the airport, queues are crazy and insurance issues or hassle.

Thanks. There was no way I’d have come up with those names in a search.
I’m basically looking for the most hassle free way of picking up and dropping off. A lot of this is now done from a busy multi-storey opposite the terminal, for the bigger names at least.
Not a lot of fun in there for the newbie.

I rented a car from Palma airport late last year. For various reasons I had to take the full insurance even though I usually buy separate insurance.
We mainly parked the car in a private gated area outside our rented accommodation. On one occasion we parked opposite the Cathedral in an open air busy pay and display for a few hours.
When returning the car to the rental company the person checking it identified we had been broken into. The rear passenger door had been forced open by a metal bar damaging both the roof and the door. We had no idea. He said this was common and they were looking for cash/items, found none because we never leave such items in a car, and then relocked the door.
The damage would have cost a significant amount to repair. Because we had the full cover he just shrugged and said safe flight home.
I’d never rent a car in Palma without full cover in future.

Well I’m sitting in Mallorca as I write, having rented a car with Terry’s.
Very impressed so far so thanks for the recommendations some months ago.
Now, has anyone anything good to say about Mallorca taxis?
My son is visiting us for a couple of days and really just needs to pop in to Palma, etc.
If they are as rubbish as I’ve read and experienced, I may have to volunteer; which I’m not confident about.

Dont use Goldcar or Interrent
I think it was Goldcar that I used. On handback the agent didn't like me taking pics of the exterior and spare wheel in situ. He threatened to 'call the police'. Very bizarre. I didn't want to get home and find I'd been retrospectively charged for damage.

I used Wiber.
It was very cheap and I bought my own excess policy.
They didn't like me not buying their overpriced policy and when I drove away, the "full tank" was only half full. Being late, I took a photo.
On return, I had the petrol thing to sort out and they wanted a copy of the photo which was in my camera, not my phone. They also gave priority to all returnees who bought their policy and subjected the car to an intense forensic examination for any scratches.
What a charade. Never again, not even at 19 Euros for the week.
Funnily enough, one of the reasons I holiday more in the Canaries is because car hire is so simple and easy and you pay what it says on the tin.

Thread revival - we're looking to book car hire end or May
Sounds like Terrys or Vanrell are the ones to look at - a biggie for us is the return flight is silly am, so want to be able to drop the car in a car park and walk to the terminal, not mess about with shuttle buses. Are those two shuttle bus free?
A friend has also recommended Autos Nifers, if anyone can offer any experience?

Terrys
Used a couple of years ago and would absolutely do so again
On pickup the car had a couple of minor knocks which I stressed on account of somewhat "relaxed" documentation and handover (ie none) but there was utterly no issues afterwards.
Car was waiting in airport multi storey on arrival and left at same without the queues at rental counters
I'll be contentious here.
Goldcar.... as with flying Ryanair, if you play the game properly, it can be one of the cheapest and least stressful solutions. The key is to book with their complete package, including key & go and also their insurance. The insurance neatly sidesteps the issues that Goldcar are notorious for, while the in-terminal pick-up and drop-off and key & go setup mean you can save a good hour or so at either end of the trip.
I've hired countless cars from all the main players (and smaller) all aound Europe and the Med', and since getting my head around the Goldcar game, I have saved myself a huge amount of faff and hassle.
I have a car booked in Palma with Goldcar in a few weeks' time, having tried them last year with success. The year before, I booked with Centurato, which was absolutely terrible. The pick up / drop off base is miles away from the terminal, the shuttle buses are awful and the check in / check out was terrible and lengthy.

Terry's with Questor beats this Goldcar.... as with flying Ryanair, if you play the game properly, it can be one of the cheapest and least stressful solutions. You get a text saying where the car will be in the multi storey with the key "hidden" somewhere
On return text them where you left it having locked the key inside
Obvs do your own research
