Travelling - VPN required?

Morning all,

I’ll be spending some time in the Middle East among other places over summer, I don’t usually bother with a VPN when travelling - should I?

For example if I want to check out some hot docking or sword fighting.

In the Middle East? Absolutely. Even for non xxxx stuff, I would always recommend using a vpn over there.

A lot of commercial VPNs seem to be blocked out there - you might want to think about setting up something yourself at home if your internet connection is up to it, or carefully considering which service you sign up to.

Quite a few choices work fine, you can always ask them before buying, buy on your CC and if it doesn't work get a refund. I don't know how well the popular ones advertised by Youtubers work, but I use PIA VPN which works everywhere I've been, incl Middle East, Singapore, SE Asia, some African nations.

Spend quite a bit of time in the UAE, I used NordVPN. Without a VPN you can't do WhatsApp calls etc.
