Getting from Gibraltar to mainland spain in a hire car

We have booked to go to a friends place in mainland Spain, with Gibraltar being the closest airport.
I'm considering hiring a car to drive but was wondering if anyone else does this route and how easy it is to get a hire car across the border?? or would it be easier to get a taxi/ driver to take us??

Thoughts would be great??

You can hire a car and pick it up at the border, walk across its 2 mins from the airport

There are a few car hire places across the border places literally minutes from the airport. Search for those in La Linea.

Gibraltar's tiny. You literally drive across the runway to get out.

Just hire a car in Spain (La Linea as I recall)
