Walking in Asturias/Galicia

I'm looking for some advice regarding walks in the North West of Spain. I'm after something in the valleys with great scenery etc and there appear to be a few on the Asturias/Galicia border.
Has anyone explored this part of Spain and got any pointers on where would be a good base?
I'm going the first 2 weeks of September and looking to spend about a week hiking and exploring cuisine before driving down to Porto for the middle weekend and then heading back across Portugal/Spain to Bilbao in the 2nd week.
