An unlikely long-shot, but PH is an amazing place…

If anyone has a contact in the British Consulate in Marseilles, could you please contact me by PM? Underlying issue is a family (incl children) whose passports have all been stolen today. Any help gratefully received.

It's been a pleasure, Petrus1983. If you have a mysterious accident in the next 24 hours, could you leave me your wine cellar?

In a more helpful mode, the Consulates are generally amazing. They deal with some entitled idiots so a little gratitude goes a long way, and they'll work very hard to sort you out.

Hope the OP gets sorted, must be a frightening experience

We went to Paris a few weeks ago and daughters purse got taken on the train from airport to centre

Fortunately the robber just nicked the 45 euro and dropped purse but could been worse

A sthole in my experience. I used to dislike having to go out there for work.

Ditto. I speak good French, work with lots of French colleagues and avoid the place like the plague on business. It's a cess pit.

I lost my passport this time last year, a few days before I was intending to return to the UK. The Paris consulate helpline turned out to be a Serco call centre ( probably ) in Glasgow, whose only aim was to turn my crisis into a catastrophe with very poor and incorrect advice.

In the end I made the online application and travelled to Paris the day after to collect the replacement. That aspect was brilliant.

At the time, I thought how horrendous this could turn out for holidaymakers in the position of the OP.
