My account balance is - was - £8.01 after I went to and from Ashford the other day. I've just had a notification that they're going to take, via DD, a tenner to top-up my account.

Is the minimum amount £10.00? Or can that be determined by you? I've just read (Google) that the minimum balance is a fiver before the auto top-up is triggered?

I know it's an 'only' amount but I have never liked the idea of them keeping my money. I'm still pissed off that the crossing fee went up after they removed the manned booths, not to mention how the toll wasn't going to last...

Using the crossing is occasional for me. Even when I have been busier it has never been more than two or three times a month. Now they have 18-quid of my hard-earned until I decide to use the crossing again.

I just checked mine, £15 balance for me but I do use it a fair amount, you can change your lower limit to £5.00.

Log into your Dartcharge account, click 'Change Top-Up limits' then you can modify the low balance threshold down to a minimum of £5.

Suspect however that whatever money is already loaded onto your account is now stuck in there till it's used up.

Hope this helps.

Remove the auto top up option. You do have to remember to manually top up though.

I don't have any of those options. Under my profile my first name is "Anonymous" and my last name "Casual". Adress: None.

Under "My payment information" there is just my debit card, and "Vehicle management" shows my three cars.

I must have a really old account, can't remember when I opened it, must have been around 2012 or 2013.

I've just looked. I think mine must be older as it doesn't appear to be an option now. Setting the payments to the minimum of£5 threshold and£10 top up appears to be it. I think I did phone up and pay£5 to keep my account. It's currently suspended with a balance of£1.61 but I don't plan on using it for a few months.

They did the same to me last week, must be their new system

I logged in and it would let me change it to £5 but not turn it off, so I deleted my card details and got a message that as no payment details were associated with the account it was my responsibility to make sure I had enough balance for each crossing

The debit card registered on my account expired and I'm yet to update with the new one. That said, they have my bank account number too; assume this was when I switched from DD to pre-paid. Feel free to tell me I'm being a plank but I'm still struggling to understand the payment method.

By setting up pre-pay, I benefit from a discount. This means, however, the account must have a minimum amount and falling below this will trigger an automatic payment request to top up the account. Back to my card expiring...

It expired on 31st March and there was still an amount of credit in the account to allow me to use the crossing without triggering a penalty. As expected, Dart Charge sent me a low balance reminder and eventually an 'account suspended' message after they could not request my minimum top-up amount. Upon signing in, I was greeted with this message:

I contemplated with the idea of switching to PAYG, and then thought about the discount and the possibility of forgetting to pay, etc but stuck with the original setup but to lower the payment amounts to the minium (I'm still not happy with them having my money upfront the whole time I have an account by the way). The message above is to pay the amount of £3.91 to restore the low balance threshold of £5.00. My account is currently £1.09 in credit. However, I can't pay the amount requested; I tried to top-up with a fiver but the system won't allow a top-up payment below £10.00.

Why not just set the payment to the minimum required? Not that I want to give them a penny more than needed! I'd rather just pay when I use it and for them to take the payment within 24 hours of that event. How does paying a minimum amount give me a discount? It used to be by setting up a DD but now it's keeping the account ( "their pocket" ) feathered with a cushion of my money in preparation for whenever I decide to cross (and for them to subsequently request the minimum is topped up the moment it drops below the level).

The discounted rate I qualify for (for a van) is £3.60 (from £4.20), so keeping a float of £5.00 is sufficient either way. Looking through my statement, there's a debit of £2.63 under the same crossing description. I have no idea what that was on Monday 23rd June last year at 20:39.

They closed my account last year when it had a £16 balance because I "hadn't used it for over a year". They say they had notified me numerous times - but I have no record of any email from them (to my own domain picked up with the *@ collection address).

I still haven't received any refund and their responses have just sent me from one department to another. I asked them to reinstate it. Oh we can't once an account is closed, it is closed - which is bks.

When I try to set up another account with the same email address and others at my domain, it would not receive the security code, so I believe that they have some sort of block on my domain. They stopped replying to me.
