air bnb
Be wary of trying to use airbnb or anyone offering short term rentals via facebook, etc., the city council is having a crackdown.https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/oct/23/ne...
When we did a similar trip ten years ago we stayed in a 2 bedroom suite here http://www.countyinnandsuites.nyc/ Was 2 mins from the subway, simple to get to all the tourist spots and much cheaper than staying in Manhattan.
I stayed here this summer for a week, it was jolly reasonably priced given its location:

Recommended. Easy to get the subway, and also the public ferries which operate all around the city. I ended up using the ferries far more than the subway. Plenty of places to eat and shop around there too.
We are a family of 4, and had a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment. Worked very well for us.

Hotels are really insane money here right now, so wherever is cheapest and suitable for you in Manhattan, anywhere below 110th st (which is the north side of central park).
Not above that, and if above 14th st not too far east or west (as it is a subway dead zone by the hudson or east river ).
Not the bronx. Would strongly suggest not queens (possibly an exception for long island city, although it's dead and soulless), definitely not staten island (lol) and if you want to experience brooklyn, then only dumbo/brooklyn heights/park slope/carroll gardens/cobble hill/williamsburg (not east williamsburg, not south williamsburg) should be on your radar. NJ you could do hoboken, but the PATH train is a pain, and all sorts of silliness with the routing at the weekend.
Consider a suite, given you need two beds (the couch will turn into the second bed) and it may be better value for you than two rooms.
Beware the hefty ridiculous city, state, occupancy taxes, and then horrible 'resort fees' which are nothing but a cash grab.
Be careful with airbnb....there are a lot going on still, without issue, but it is technically now illegal in the city for stays below 30 days without the owner being present.

Corner suite at the Doubletree Jersey City may fit the bill and PATH isn’t too much hassle (not much more than getting a subway normally anyways) but will also depend where you’re flying in/out of too.
I’d also suggest you lose the VFM mindset, it won’t be. I go every year and just got back a couple of days ago and prices were definitely the highest they’ve ever been in the past 20yrs and rates remain poor.
Personally I would always choose the Conrad Downtown (and have done for the past 6+years), it’s all suite so there is a separate lounge with sofa bed etc. and is very pleasant.

Mind sharing some location details on this? Looking to go to NYC in Aug this year so scouting all possible options at the moment!
I'll let you know if any good after we have been. All looks good on the web site. I see that the OP is sorted, but for future reference I would happily recommend the ArLo Nomad https://arlohotels.com/nomad/
Walking distance to Times Square through Korea Town (get yourself a Korean Bouncy Purple Yam Cheesecake!!) we had a great view of the Empire State Building and the service was faultless. Relatively cheap too. They also have locations in Soho and Midtown IIRC too.

Large doorman residential building. You'll be ok around there, and it's walkable. It may feel a little sketchy at night in the vicinity there right now with the current state of things, but you'll be alright. Check out Bear Donut (www.beardonut.com) literally next to the entrance of the building - they are exceptional (and now I want to call by there for some, goddammit)

Looking for a breakfast place and I've been told to go to Dillons for my Premier League footy match (the NUFC fans meet there) we also love NFL (although the season will have finished) and don't mind baseball (will be going to Fenway Park while in Boston) Would have loved to go to a NASCAR race but could not sort out (been to Dover and Concord previously).Check out Bear Donut (www.beardonut.com) literally next to the entrance of the building - they are exceptional (and now I want to call by there for some, goddammit)

No shortage of choice in that hood. Ess-a-bagel and black seed bagel (which are wood fired) are a couple of mins walk away and some of the best in the city. There is a Le Pain Quotidien a couple of blocks away, you also have The Grey Dog on 26th/6th which does all day breakfast. The Harold is very close, and there are a couple of diners in the vicinity too. magpies said:

We popped to https://www.legends33.com/ to watch premier league when we were there in 2022. Screens all over, lots of supporters in replica shirts and some of the best loaded tater tots we’ve ever had.magpies said:

You’ll have a great breakfast surrounded by locals at the Skylight Diner which is pretty close to where you’re staying. Can’t imagine they’d have the football on though. Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
