Why does anyone holiday in Switzerland?

We used it live in Switzerland long term and we are heading back this weekend for a close friend’s birthday party.
When we moved to Switzerland back in 1999 it was very expensive but at least the exchange rate was 2.5 francs per pound. Now it is close to one to one!
How can anyone not working and being paid in Swiss Francs afford to go there for a holiday? Surely not every tourist is a multimillionaire?

Same as above we did lots of holidays with the kids with a caravan . We used to stock up before we went in , food and drinks, stay untill we had eaten and drank it all. This was 15 plus years ago , we could even afford a pass to take four of us up all the mountains. We looked the other day that pass is an absolute fortune now .
Used to stay in Interlaken. However that's an unrecognisable town now compared to how it used to be , not for the better.

They do great jet fighter experience flying up the face and through the mountains, they can as their rules are different to eu.
Stunning place and medicals are the best in the world, would not holiday there though, do 1 week in Birkenstock each year and it’s enough, never drive a fast loud car there
The Swiss only own them so they can drive everywhere else conveniently
loads of Swiss plates tank it through Europe to, there’s a car transporter guy in Marbella who has a full time job taking peoples cars back to Switzerland for there mot and then brings them back to Spain 
It’s a loophole country for people to use or for lentil munchers to live in and wag their fingers at people, such an uptight place, you can be arrested for swearing at someone in the street

At least when I was there it was seen as an important industry, although of course the Swiss economy is well diversified and has many other key sectors (banking, precision engineering, pharmaceuticals, tax evasion!)economy does not rely a lot on the income from the tourism sector.
We have friends with a Chalet in the mountains so have been a couple of times. It's by far the most scenic European country.
It also seems to have an extremely low percentage of dick heads too, which is hugely appealing.
TBF I didn't think it was actually that expensive compared to a lot of other European countries - especially the Scandi ones. Yes it's more than here...by a lot.

There are some stunning motorcycling routes, been there many times, always staying off the motorways as their vignette regime is unreasonably expensive for the short term user.
Accommodation & food has always been great, although sometimes prices make you wince, but not that much different to Austria.

Our daughter lives and works in Basel so we visit quite frequently. Over the last 3 years we’ve noticed that the price difference has become smaller as our cost of living has increased here in England. Yes things are a bit more expensive, but as has already been said, no d
heads and just a lovely place to be. Perhaps some people prefer a pint for a quid and be surrounded by muggers and pissheads, but each to their own !

We were going to go last year on a bit of a family road trip around Europe but they have a ban on Staffordshire Bull Terriers and I couldn't figure out if that applied to tourists or not. Just for one night mind, because we're not millionaires.

The last time I was in Geneva, a bowl of pasta and a bottle of sparkling water was 50% more expensive in a completely non-descript back street restaurant there than pretty much the exact same meal a couple of days later in a restaurant right up at the top of the slopes in Val d'Izere where all the food and drink has to be hauled up on chairlifts or piste bashers!

Unless it's a photo of Grindelwald I'd guess 9 out 10 people wouldn't know which country you're photographing.
I agree if you're rich enough then it's great because a) the price is irrelevant and b) there is a noticeably fewer d
heads. Agree it’s simply stunning scenery and largely unspoilt by urban sprawl.
Can be pricey but depends where you live for comparison. The scenery is free and is extraordinarily good value at that.
Poorest value and main downside is the food. Not sure how you can border both France and Italy and end up with such a meh f&b scene.

Ridiculously expensive when you're on very normal UK wages.
The difference between Zermatt and Cervinia was just laugh out loud funny.
