Upcoming train strikes

With commuting demand still on its arse and Saturday & Sunday being the busiest days of the week in most places, Network Rail now seem to be doing more major engineering work during the day on weekdays.

Maintenance/engineering works taking place, can’t link directly but should be on this page:

Holy thread revival Batman! Almost a year to the day.
My wife is going on a 50th birthday weekend in Manchester with a group of mates on the weekend Fri 21st - Sun 23rd March
They need to travel back to London Euston from Manchester by train on Sun 23rd March, a group of six of them, all with weekend bags.
As far as I can make out there is (assuming same timetable as this coming weekend) going to be one train an hour from Piccadilly to Euston, with the last one being 1615hrs

Has anyone travelled that route on these strike Sundays in recent weeks? Is it a colossal bunfight to get on a train?
I'm urging her to make alternative plans but as the mate whose birthday it is is a pisshead who flies by the seat of her pants on all occasions. I'm expecting them to turn up at Piccadilly at about 7pm expecting to jump on an empty train and drink fizz all the way to London, which is very definitely not going to happen.
Just trying to avoid the world's biggest Uber bill and me saying "I told you so" through gritted teeth.

I would be avoiding going anywhere near train routes that are actively planning strikes, as it really is pot luck as to what you are going to get. Assuming trains are running as planned, it will more than likely be rammed, especially if they run a reduced number of carriages. Far more sensible to have an alternative plan - either stay over in Manchester, or get the cross country run to Birmingham, and then change to London.
