As the title suggests really, we're driving from Puy Du Fou to Tours and looking for recommendations for interesting stops along the way.

Cheers,
Pete

+1 for Saumur. Lovely walks by the river and a choice of fine restaurants. There is also a few French beauties to look at such as the below.

along with:
Langeais, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry and Breze - all chateaux worth stopping at.

There's a great zipline/acrobranche at https://www.ot-saumur.fr/en/chips/saint-benoit-adv... (Cash only!!!)

Rent bikes and cycle along the Loire, rent canoes and canoe along the Loire.

Wine tasting.

Good suggestions! Thanks!

Saumur is a wee gem, we've been there twice and I'm sure we'll be back. We discovered fizzy red wine there.

I'll float these ideas to the family driving

Wherever you are in France be careful where you park. We’ve been going for years and the fling the car door open and hit the adjacent parked car is prevalent.

It seems to be getting worse there and I found last year’s trip too stressful to the point I’ve gone off going there. Moreover some of the speed limits on their fantastic roads seem to be very low and the French (mainly in new Dacia’s) stick to them rigidly.

In fact on the subject of French car buying habits (and I’d love to see the numbers) in the mid 00’s there were lots of new Alfa’s, Audi’s and BMW’s. In recent years I’ve hardly seen any less than 10 years old.

If you’re at Puy du Fou on a day when the Cinéscénie is on, it is spectacular.

I suggest taking plenty of small, hard objects to throw at the people in front of you, who are holding up their phones!

We stayed near Montreuil-Bellay last year - the view from the bridge was spectacular and the castle itself was worth a visit. We ate at a restaurant at the foot of the castle by the river called L'Auberge des Isles which was lovely.

The fortress at Chinon is absolutely epic.

My vote for a chateau on route would be a much smaller and intimate place called Chateau de I'Islette - you can hire a boat to row down the river (we saw two Kingfishers) and the pace of life was just so relaxing.

When at Puy du Fou, don't skip the Mime Etoile (and don't panic when it seems really slow at the beginning) - it is one of the most beautiful and moving shows I have seen.

One of the best tank museums in the world no less, definitely worth it!
