Now hotels.com have royalty screwed us by going to this one key system where you get about £1.20 per £200 booking, is there any other platforms worth considering that offer good benefits/free nights?

IHG rewards allows points conversion into gift cards (eg. sainsburys/john lewis/m&s) at pretty decent rates, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for. In percentage terms it's about the most generous of all the hotel booking systems I've come across.Ta

I always used to book direct with the hotel rather than going through some booking system, always worked out slightly cheaper.
Not sure that stands up anymore as sometimes the booking company will pay part of your stay which seems very alien. A few times over the last couple of years I've had the person behind the counter how I got such a low rate. I use a combination of booking.com hotels.com and very rarely Agoda.

I used to do this, and and still try, but 90% of the time its the same or higher rate to go direct, with none of the convenience or perks..... Drezza said:
I've made a few thousand from TopCashBack and IHG, they often do promotions for up to 10% cashback (typically 3%). So get both cashback and IHG points. Need to get a cashback credit card to maximise the benefits next.
Amex cashback is your friend.Mine's still on a legacy deal where there's no fee and the cashback is 0.5% on the first 10K of spend, 1% on anything above that. Historically it was better (1.25% on anything above 10K) but that's the way of the world.
Cashback beats points in terms of usability (because you can spend pounds on anything) and you can get IHG rewards on top (again -- translate to hotel stays or gift cards).
As I am a Virgin Flying club member I usually book any hotels through here... https://www.rocketmiles.com/
They also have different reward programs other than Virgin
