Hi. Need one months hire car from Alicante airport in December. Many years ago I was a regular user of Centurio and they were good. Time moves on and wonder if anyone used them recently or recommendations for other airport based companies. Only two travelling but prefer four door…budget size car fine for holiday. Cheers.

Coys rent-a-car seem to be popular with the locals.

I used Centauro recently at Barcelona. Booked through Economy Car who are terrible but Centauro were great and I didn't have the extra insurance either. Pick up was good and drop off was not intrusive.

I've used Wiber who make you feel like a criminal for not taking their extra insurance.

the most recommend hire car companies are both run by English.. the price you see is the price you pay. --- DEFO no hidden costs.

All done online.. they meet you at arrivals - no queuing at a desk, no paperwork to be done, no hard sell of extra stuff,

they handover the car with a quick talkthrough and away you go.

Have used them both for years and also operate out of Murcia Covera International Airport.

both have facebook pages too.

Sure but I have used all-inclusives and they tend not to be cheap.
The Fiat 500 I had cost me 88 Euros for the week.
Had I booked direct with Centauro, the full package would have been 199 Euros but on arrival, they wanted an extra 200 plus just for the upgrade but no fuss when I declined it.
One of the reasons I prefer the Canaries to Spain is they have Autoreisen and Payless who don't charge a lot and don't mess you about. Here's your keys, bring it back with the same fuel.

I used do you Spain for years before buying my own car down there.

External excess cover and had no issues. One time I needed to claim using that was gold car but to be fair looked like I’d (unbeknown to me) sustained some damage by a third party in a car park.

Get decent excess protection and go cheap is my own view. Must have hired from Alicante 50 odd times before I bought a car down there.

And off site can be just as easy as off by the time you queue versus shuttle bus to outskirts.

Hi and thanks for above . I’ve plumped for Centauro , as I said I’ve used them before and LuS1fer confirmed recent good service. 4 weeks hire , two drivers all inc insurance came to £860 for a 4 door Fiesta. Could have been slightly cheaper but would mean a fiat 500 two door , not suitable. All in happy with result…thanks again pistonheads.

I've used Goldcar at Alicante, probably around 10 times so far, through DoYouSpain.

Zero issues.

Hard sell? Just say no and take out your own car hire insurance before you leave at a fraction of the cost when you arrive.

They just came in, for a Renault Megane, for a month Dec to Jan, £620 with a second driver. A UK policy would cost you £42. So £680, so your £860 isnt' far off and not a bad deal but still £180 extra.

It's not so much the insurance, they have a clever scam were they charge you 60/70 euro's for not filling up, caught me out the one time I never took a pic of the fuel gauge, when you complain they won't answer emails and by the time you would phone them up it would cost you more in call charges than it's worth.

Glad to be of service. I'm somewhat of an expert at cheap car hire (I travel to Europe for leisure a lot). Have a great time!

Yeah - Goldcar Pisa tried to charge me for not filling up 100% - its the ONLY time any Goldcar co. has tried it on, and they were truly horiffic in Pisa, but, I took a photo before I returned the car (of the fguel gauge). I emailed them the photo and they refunded the £70 euro charge. There was nothing more to it than that. For all the 100's (more like 1000's) of Euros I've saved, I'll cope with that one dispute. Cant remember the exact wording but it was along the lines of, "if you can make the fuel gauge move any further to the right I'll pay the fine, otherwise, I'll have my CC co. reverse your entire hire cost and you can fight with them...."

On the whole, I've found GC staff to be fine, but, Pisa - well - all I'd say is that's the one place I'd recommend giving them a wide berth.

I once had a cheap no frills Wiber car hire in Mallorca. The full tank was half a tank and being late, I took a photo 5 yards down the road and continued on. I returned it early and because I was a low priority customer, they served everyone else first then ran a forensic examination Dr Quincy would have been proud of before reluctantly say it was all good.

I took the car back half full. I had taken the photo on my camera and though I showed it, they insisted I provide a copy so cue about 45 minutes transferring it to my phone and emailing it.

Never again even at 29 Euros for the week.

It happens, and if you are once a year I totally get avoiding them. I go to the EU probably 4-6 times a year and hire cars for 4 - 15 days at a time, so it adds up fast.

In Athens this year - on collection, they served all the Greek customers 1st. My mrs threw a fit with the manageress and it was sorted, but not before an hour had passed. They took it back a lot faster.

I've been given a car 3/4 full and been asked to return it the same - which is a pain, but not impossible.

Most of the time its been painless, and very, very cheap.

I've never paid anything extra.

I go 6 to 8 times a year but mainly to the Canaries because Autoreisen and Payless just don't bugger you about. You pay, they give you the keys and you bring it back with the same fuel. It's always cheap and no upselling. I don't know why they can't all be like that.

GC tried the same with me in Mallorca this summer.

They tried a harder sell on insurance at pick up claiming the police don’t recognise hire car excess insurance and would arrest me if I had an accident and didn’t have their own insurance very odd behaviour.

Used centauro on another trip this year and much more professional

Another downvote for GC at alicante, there was a huge queue of over an hour and a half as they tried to hard sell everybody excess insurance and everybody was rightly refusing. Must have been some directive from head office but they lost a lot of customers that day.

There is no denying they try ! Hired two cars there once and they convinced my ( pre insured, I arranged it) mate to take out insurance. I overheard and stepped in and stopped him ( whilst I was arranging the other car at the desk next to his). He told me he was going to give in as he could not handle confrontation / be bothered.

We paid around 3 euros a day for each car ( hire , not insurance ). They make their money from the insurance.....

I never travel peak season so queues are rarely a thing I encounter.
