Soho Farmhouse - [url]https://www.sohohouse.com/houses/soho-farmhouse[\url]
My daughter took my wife for a night and they're both raving about the place. My wife wants to go for a significant Birthday next year.
Picky I know, but it's a 'members club' with all the associated charges and I really CBA to sign up for something I'll only use once.
I said this to SWMBO, and suggested there's bound to be somewhere else as good. However I was quickly shut down with a scathing look and retort that 'nothing's like it, so don't bother looking....!!'
My question is - there must be somewhere either equal or better - what are your suggestions, oh wise PH folks?

Oh my the down form Londoners yuck! next you will be going to daylesford
but maybe thyme near lechlade/fairford fits the bill sort of? not cotswold proper, and even then its debatable if its cotswolds. slightly less pretencious than SF...just.
i like it. and the swan at southrop is decent.

I fully admit I'm not an expert in relationships - but if this happened "However I was quickly shut down with a scathing look and retort that 'nothing's like it, so don't bother looking....!!'" - I think I'd admit defeat and go where she wanted.
Whatever you choose isn't going to be where she wants to go.....

Calcot Manor as a much better alternative...
but ultimately what Soho Farmhouse offers is that you can be 'part of the crowd' with others just like you - if that works then it is hard to replicate elsewhere, if that makes you run a mile then Calcot Manor Hotel would be much better

thanks bothIn essence I see it as a challenge and am looking for somewhere (not necessarily in the Cotswolds) that provides good surroundings and a decent standard of food. A few years ago we quite enjoyed Ellenborough Park and even their bar food was good.
I have been distinctly unimpressed with the Soho Farmhouse menus and I really enjoy good quality food. I have suggested going back to the Hand and Flowers rather than trekking to somewhere where we would stay in a pig shed.

Possibly a better option if you wanted to do e.g. a cookery course - not sure I would choose it as much for a spa retreat - and definitely not over Calcot which I think is superb (35 yrs of living in that area and know the people well).
