Ok, so my dad adamantly doesn't want a "proper" stag do, but really likes the idea of a walking trip with his 3 sons.

The criteria are:

Drive there Friday (some of us are in the Midlands, the other half are London), walk part of it Saturday, ideally walk to and stay in a pub, then do the second half the next day.

Approx. 20 miles each day.

Drive back Sunday evening.

Leaving 22nd November.

His preferences are that it would be coastal, but I might overrule that as I'm struggling to find something suitable.

My thoughts are:

Peak District- Bit near me, limited pubs with accomodation
Lake District- Pretty, few more pubs
Doing the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge- fun challenge, may be a bit difficult and not sure what to do Sunday
Hadrians Wall- Dad mentioned this, but I think it's too far and the fact we will only be doing a small portion of it

Anyone got any thoughts on anything similar?

I'm leaning towards the Yorkshire 3 Peaks at the moment.

If doing 3 peaks there's plenty to do around there.

Snowdonia?

It'll be 5-8 hours to do snowdon up and down, you could quite easily take 1 route up Snowdon, another route down the other side

Say a Friday hotel in Beddgelert, walk up to the Rhyd Du path and head back down the Llanberis path and stay in Llanberis saturday night

loads of adventurous activities around the area

You could definitely do the bulk of Hadrian's Wall in two days. A nice stop around Hexham/Corbridge would work as the bits at either end aren't particularly scenic, but the middle is nice. Plenty of pubs and places to stop close to, if not directly on the wall. There are companies which will move your luggage for you too if need be, and you can get the train back to the car easily given it is a one-way rather than circular walk.

Walk about half of the Isle of Wight coastal path?

Plenty of places to stay en route. Easy access from London and the Midlands.

Mull of Galloway trail. One way walk though, but I'm sure a taxi back to the start can be arranged.

I also really like this idea, I've put it in the group chat so I'll see what they say

Yep, Pembrokeshire is a really good idea, I was out at New Quay and Newport (both really special wee places) on that coast last weekend, don't know why I didn't think of it! Can recommend the Castle Inn in Newport.

Just to update, I think so far the Isle of Wight is my favourite suggestion.

Does anyone know if Southampton is good enough for a night out?

Then we will get an earlyish ferry over Sat morning then I’m thinking a taxi to the south of the island somewhere, then make our way back over the 2 days.

It looks like there are better places to stay on the east of the iow coast, but prettier on the west?

Devon and Cornwall has probably literally thousands of miles of walking along the SW Coast Path with plenty of village stop overs along the way. South Devon around Dartmouth/Kingsbridge or East Devon along the Jurassic Coast around Exmouth/Sidmouth would be worth a visit.

For coastal, and since you mention the Lake District, how about a chunk of the Cumbrian Coastal Way? I’d say Whitehaven start, go through St Bees, down to Ravenglass etc., plus you get to see sellafield close up.

The Jurassic Coast in the Purbecks is also worth considering. Start at the Studland ferry, overnight in the Scott Arms in Kingston, or staying in Worth Matravers and using the Square and Compass for the evening then carry on to Lulworth Cove.

I love the idea of the walk and pub stay but I notice it’s late November! Would it not be nicer and less risk just to jump on a plane and do a bit of the Portuguese Camino trail or Spanish one or maybe Malta for the weekend.
I just think it may be spoilt if it’s crap weather although the pub would be enjoyable. Good luck with the search.

That is indeed a worry!

But I’ve got no time off left with work, so it will literally have to be over the weekend.

Friday out Sunday home?

I used to fly in and out of France like this for a couple of years most months. Easy enough.

Arrive in Edale for beers and food Day1

Walk over to Hayfield and repeat Day 2

Walk back to Edale and leave

Decent choice of nice pubs in each village
Edale has a station if required

You have options to go out and back via different paths and spend as much time as you like

Google maps has distances between the 2 at 7miles via Jacobs Ladder and 8 via Roych Clough
If this is too wussy start a station more Easterly in the valley eg Hope although the terrain isnt flat

Note the pubs arent 5* luxury and the weather might be "attritional" but its a lovely part of the country

Cheers
