I’m travelling to New Zealand and Australia next year July/August and I noted my passport expires end November 25.
Flights out there and back already booked under current passport.
I now need to book hotel and flights between NZ and Oz.
Am I likely to run into problems with only 4 months life on my passport when I leave the UK ?
Thanks for any advice….

What was the issue date of the passport? The expiration date isn’t necessarily correct. I know mine wasn’t. The validity of the passport ends ten years after the issue date.

Where are you transiting through?

You can update the passport details on flight bookings easily, you might want to consider just renewing it.

Oz just want validity until you leave, NZ 3 months from departure date but they’re both quite anally retentive nations when it comes to immigration so personally I’d just take the slightly early renewal on the chin but then I’m fairly cautious when it comes to travel documentation.

I believe the 10 year thing is Europe specific.

It is. For Europe, your passport runs out 10 years after the start date. For anywhere else, it runs out on the expiry date.

Thanks for the replies everyone, helpful.
My passport was renewed on 15 November 2015 with an expiry date 25 November 2025.
Having lived in Oz and travelled frequently between Sydney and Auckland I know how awkward it can be if there’s the slightest thing wrong.
But it’s a while since I’ve been down there and the issue of having a minimum of 6 months life on a passport has become a thing…

Only for entry to EU. It can be older on exit from the EU as long as it has more than three months left after planned departure date.

As has been said NZ need three months left after the planned departure date (same as EU).

Don't forget the visas / electronic travel authority that will be tied to the passport number too if you do renew it.

I would just renew your passport for peace of mind. I have flights booked for April, I’m currently renewing my passport. You don’t need to put the passport details on until closer to when you fly, they can also be amended right up until you fly.

Yes I’m inclined to just do this next year and then inform airlines of new number etc.
Thanks !
