Middle Names on Tickets

Some time ago Mrs H was organising Easyjet flights for a girls' (cough) trip abroad. She got in a right state because she'd booked one of the girls' (cough) tickets as Firstname Lastname, but her passport was Firstname Middlename Lastname. Easyjet say somewhere on their website that tickets and passports must match so she coughed up the admin fee to change the ticket details.
So, has anyone fallen foul of Easyjet's criteria? Or is it just another thing not to worry about? Consensus on the Internet (for what that's worth) seems to be 50:50 "yes it matters/no it doesn't".

I had bother with Emirates last year because when booking they ask for first name and last name. Then, later on (after paying) you add passport details etc etc.
My son and I have the same first name - Emirates’ system could not comprehend two passengers with the same “name” having different passport details and just put whichever was entered last in against both. Their call centre couldn’t fix it.
Absolute nightmare which meant an extra 30 mins at 4 check ins (2 separate return trips) getting it sorted out. We’d had no problems prior to that because he was still a child: having two adults caused the issue.
When I book our next lot of flights this afternoon I’ll be entering first, middle and last names.

When I've included my middle name it sometimes gets merged and then the whole thing cut short - it's never bothered anyone though.
When I worked for a big company our travel agency only ever booked using first name surname - I queried this and they said if there's more than one name they sometimes get mixed up and then the curtailed name doesn't match the passport and causes problems.
You do see stories from other countries of people being denied boarding because the ticket and passport names didn't match, but I don't recall every seeing that reported as happening from UK.

The boarding pass is just a QR code to bleep through security and at the gate, the passport just to prove who you are.

easyJet booking used to be designed so you make mistakes. It may have got better but I refuse to use them now So, has anyone fallen foul of Easyjet's criteria? I once tried to book a flight for a friend who is Sri Lankan by birth. His UK passport has 4 of his 7 names on it. Just the first middle name exceeded the character limit for the field so I didn’t bother. It would have made any gate calls for him highly amusing.

As long as the names match you're fine.
Booked loads of flights without my middle name. if the given and surnames match you're golden. Denying boarding on spurious grounds such as an obvious typo or missing middle name gets airlines into a lot of trouble.
I once accidentally transposed my first and last name on a booking. I.E. Smith John instead of John Smith. This was with Air France so I could do the name change for free but because it included a code share they couldn't change it. It took the nice AF lady at Heathrow about 15 mins to sort it on the day.

Flown with them five times this year. Never had one issue with them and someone would need to be a bit thick to make a mess of booking with them, couldn’t be simpler.Wife flew with them a few weeks ago. Flight was delayed by four hours. No argument whatsoever on compensation and paid within a couple of weeks. £350 for a £140 ticket.
Both of us are EasyJet plus members as they fly where we want to go and generally the alternative is a more expensive BA.

Yep - same thing happens to my son. Its something to do with the airline booking software. i went on Emirates online chat and they said it was normal/no issues..
