Dear PH Hive mind....

Me and the other half have a babysitter this Sat, so would be nice to stay somewhere within 90 minute drive of Swindon...

Up to £200 less/more a night OK

Spa would be nice as would decent restaurant / bar - Parking would be great if in a town/city . Easy going though

Any tips or recomendations most apprecated!

Cheers Beany - I wish to get out on the road though and flex my director build though

The Dial House, Bourton-on-the-Water.
The Swan, Bibury.

Both have very good restaurants.

My wife and I had a meal at the Swan and took a detour past the rooms on the way to the toilet. They looked very nice indeed. Food was excellent too.

Not at £200 you wont, £500 or so these days. Tbh most of the fancy places in Cotwolds are far beyond that these days.

Double Red Duke/Ebrington Arms/Fox Oddington maybe doable in budget and all pleasant if not a little identikit as per most of the Cotswolds these days.

Spa will limit things drastically, there’s not many for a start and anything pleasant is going to be double your budget - I had this issue a month back. A 2 night weekend anywhere good in the entire south of England is £1k it seems if you wanted a spa.

The other two areas are not ones I know and expect are more reasonable.

Plus it's Valentine's weekend so prices may well be inflated and places hard to get.

Tewkesbury Park was nice when we went a couple of years ago. Only a short drive (or walk) from town. Has a spa and decent restaurant.

I can't imagine you'll get in this weekend, and it may be a bit over budget, but this place is lovely. It has a Spa and a restaurant as well so no need to go anywhere else

Would agree, currently lying in bed here on a Stay and Dine break. But booked weeks ago and Valentines night was long gone then.

Lovely spa, not sure how to describe the decor but it’s eclectic and just to my partners taste. Food and drink pricy but good.

ETA: Apart from the yappy small dog in the room next door which has just started howling and barking as its owners went down to breakfast, same thing happened at dinner last night. At least it’s 8:40 and not earlier, so beware it’s a ‘dog friendly’ hotel.

I didn't see the limit and missed those others out due to lack of spa! Thyme is spendy but ticks all my boxes and isn't as wky as daylesford.

Although if at the fox I suppose if one had the inclination, fortitude and countenance you could use the daylesford spa but usually need half a white valium after delving into full on bamford experiences....

That's said I will be at the wild rabbit a few days pre fairford airshow amongst others so I'm a hypocrite.

It is becoming more identikit but if no spa basic but comfortable accomodation wanted but great food in a slightly less identikit place then would recommend halfway at kineton or horse and groom at bourton on hill.

Horse & Groom now has a Bib Gourmand in the 2025 Michelin. Even on a Tuesday night in the autumn, they were doing 70 booked covers for dinner
