Any recommendations for a hotel in Florence please?
Would like city centre (ish) for 3 nights - don’t mind paying for a decent place but not into the £1k’s…

Cheers.

We stayed at the Residenzia D’Epoca which is right on the central square. More like a palazzo than an hotel and location couldn’t be better.

Sorry it wasn't anything like that when we stayed! Years ago, pre-euro

That looks fabulous and decent price, but no availability on our dates frown

Could try here Hotel Perre good location, been twice first time excellent second time booked with secret escapes allegedly for similar superior room. Hotel -Secret escapes blamed each other so just check room size and see if comes within your budget

Stayed here back in 2017, but has since been bought by Hilton and been updated (and probably more money), but it is nice and central.

Firenze has never really been “cheap”, but these days it touts itself as a serious high end tourist destination and very much isn’t cheap at all. Sorry OP, but you might find your budget being pushed up a little frown

We stay with our daughter-in-law’s family in the Mugello valley and get the train in, as we did between Xmas and New Year just gone.

I am seeing said DIL tomorrow in central Geneva for her birthday, so I’ll ask about downtown hotels. Her Mum also has a small flat close to the central station, but rents it to foreign students 10 months of the year.

For a meal, try to get a table here:

Basic Tuscan food at reasonable prices. Last time I had salt cod in a spicy tomato sauce which was excellent.

Found some lovely Air BnB’s but none of them will let us check in after midnight - our flight doesn’t land until 11:05pm.
Mrs Leg is out there Monday to Friday for a work and will be staying at the Mercure so we are going out earlier to have a weekend together.

Rooms at the Mercure are from £750 but the better room is around £900 - was hoping for something around that price but a little less corporate..

Is it a fairly compact city like Rome where everything is walkable? Could look for something a little further out from the centre.

i was going to suggest the westin but they are booked solid until june and then its extremely spendy. i miss having a GF who works for the westin group....

the 25hours is extremely good value with excellent location if you can get on with the decor, it's not for everyone. great chain though.

villa cora will get you the most grandeur for your money but is up the hill the other side of boboli gardens. this does mean you can have breakfast then a stunning walk every day down to the city.

but really airbnb is the way to go. sign in and message the host to explain. most use coded key boxes these days. we use airbnb a lot and its been a long while since we actually had to collect keys from someone.

Bit of a left field option but we stayed here in 2018 - http://www.mulinodifirenze.com/

The upside is the location is very quiet, the food was superb and the rooms while rustic were very comfortable. The downside is you can walk to the city but it'll take about an hour or 30 minutes if you jump on a train at the station over the river. Fortunately we drove down so that was the option we chose more often than not.

Couldn’t you stay at the airport the first night and go into the city the next morning rather than get there tired in the early hours of the morning? A cheaper airport hotel would also increase your budget for the other two nights.

Can recommend the Hotel Savoy. Very central. Stayed there a good few years ago and it was excellent. Rocco Forte had just taken it over and it's still a RF hotel (https://www.roccofortehotels.com/hotels-and-resorts/hotel-savoy/). Rooms from £600.

My wife and I had a long weekend break in Florence ostensibly to see Radiohead . Turned out they were staying there too.
