Checked baggage - long transfer

I want to travel from London - to Delhi - to Bangkok

I want to have a layover of 25 hours in Delhi

I would prefer that my luggage transfers from London to Bangkok but my questions are

1) is it risky in case it gets lost?
2) do I actually have a choice as to what happens or is there like a rule that any luggage over 24hours as to be collected?
3) does Delhi airport have storage facilities at all?

4) do I have to 'check in' for the second flight ? As they are linked flights I assume a single check-in - although I may have to go back with my luggage if I have to collect it.

Probably classed as a stopover not a layover. You’re best asking the airline you’re booking with, some countries have different rules re checked baggage which complicates matters.

Also worth noting if your stopover is more than 24 hours its usually priced as quite a bit more than one under 24 hours.

Might be worth asking on the Flyertalk forum for the individual airline. Someone will have been in the same situation and they should be able to tell you what happens in practice as well as what the airline officially says.

i had a one night stopover in hong kong on the way to australia - left the bags at the airport luggage storage and returned the next day and checked in in the same manner as any normal flight

I had an overnight stop once with Norwegian and they told me I'd get my bags back, so I didn't take out a charger or toothbrush or change of clothes or anything... But then I didn't get my bag back!

No idea how I could've got absolute confirmation, and we only found out when it didn't come off the carousel. Even more annoying because the overnight was due to their schedule change post booking and pre trip, so they put us up in a hotel at the airport.

Delhi, it’s been a while but….

I used to have to collect luggage & re introduce it to the system when on a transfer even if ticketed right through (it said in my booking to collect & re-check bags).
