Most upmarket I've been to is the Yeatman, although it's in Gaia (south bank of the river) across from Porto, so not exactly central. It's a walk down to the port lodges and a taxi ride from the main shopping area, but very much 5 star and safe parking if that's a concern

We just booked Vinha Boutique Hotel, as its got secure parking and offers free private boat transfers in to the centre of Porto.

I came here to say that. It's right on the river and from memory nothing seemed too far a walk. It was spotlessly clean too which I value.

I've stayed in the NH Batalha. Central, not luxurious but just very nice. Like most NH hotels.

We stayed here in April, also for 4 nights:

https://www.pestana.com/uk/hotel/pestana-porto-bra...

It's about a 10-15 minute walk down to the river. It's not a bad place, but we like hotel bars and it's not really got one. It has a cafe as a sperate thing, and you can drink in there and the food was fine.

Staff in both places were very good and helpful.

Book yourself on a Port Lodge tour, the one we did was very good.

Thanks for the suggestions chaps

We've booked in here for 4 nights

Is it best to just get a cab at at the airport or book a transfer company?

There's a Michael Portillo travel programme recently on Porto, and he's filmed from that balcony. We almost booked that one ourselves.

For a taxi, we just got one at the airport, it took no time at all to get to our hotel and yours is not far further one. It took about 30 minutes and was around 30 euros,

On the way back, I just asked Reception to book one. At around 8:00 it only took 20 minutes.

Blimey!

We watched that show. It's what prompted us to visit Porto.
Thanks for the taxi heads-up.

We stayed here (as it was the cheapest 4* one near the centre when we booked it) which was good (if you like a more modern and trendy hotel) for the price - https://www.thesocialhub.co/porto/

Uber works in Porto and was very reasonable - about 4-5 euros to travel about 5 miles and about 12 euros to the airport, and something turned up in <5 minutes typically.
