10 days in Japan??
Discussion
We have an Avios 2 for 1 voucher which needs to be used soonish
There is currently availability in August with dates giving us approx 10 days between flying into/out Tokyo
Have always fancied Tokyo plus Mt Fuji and probably a trip on the bullet train however other than that have no idea if 10 days is ridiculous or time for a decent trip
Suggestions and opinions welcome on must do/sees in Japan
Cheers
PS Kobe beef is possible a bucket list option too?????
We were in Tokyo for a week at the end of March and barely scratched the surface. We did go on a bullet train but sadly Fuji was shrouded in clouds the whole time even though it was quite sunny and warm in the city. I would suggest making a list of things you want to see and then decide that into musts, mights and maybes if you have time. Some of the temples are incredible so make sure you include them on yours musts.
I spent last November in Japan, starting with 5 days in Tokyo which was not nearly long enough. Ten days would have been much better. But it was over 20 degrees most days. The Japanese were mostly covered up, but I was in shirt sleeves feeling like it was summer. I've only heard what a real Japanese summer is like! Having said that, going towards the north western coast across from Tokyo (Toyama, Kanazawa) and in Nagano in the middle, things were MUCH cooler. But in August they might still be unbearably hot and humid. I don't know.
Things to see - well there are innumerable temples and shrines as well as modern stuff, and the food is out of this world. As well as all the amazing beef on offer and obviously the sushi, I really enjoyed eating at izakayas which are the Japanese equivalent of a pub. The food offerings at those places can be surprising, but also amazing. I'm an adventurous eater so I lapped it up. If you like meat, also check out the Yakiniku places where you order various cuts of meat and grill it yourself over a gas griddle on your table. I'd go back to Japan just for that!
I'd say the Tsukiji outer fish market is a must see, as is the Tokyo Tower at night and also the Skytree. I had private guide for a couple of days. If you want amazing views without having to pay, you can go up to the top floor of the Tokyo government building for free. Next time I go I'll make sure I'm armed with an international driving permit so I can hire one of those street go-karts or go on an organised tour.
I started a thread on my Japan trip which you might want to look at. Photos start on page three - no, not THAT kind of page three!

As others have said mid 30s but very very humid in August.
August is also peak typhoon time.... and having been in a small one near Fuji for a couple of days - I shudder to think what a big one would be like.
I have been in April and May and by the end of May it was getting really quite hot.
We had a trip planned last year for Sept & Oct but we had to cancel due to moving house.
I personally would avoid June - Aug.
