Thinking about an IOM road trip to explore the winding roads. It's decades since I was last there when I was a regular visitor flying there and hiring a car for work. Evenings were spent driving the TT circuit in an Escort Popular. Not fast, but fun.

Now thinking of a pa and son road trip in our toy buy I would welcome recommendations for places to stay where nice cars can be parked without me fretting.

I know the IOM is a safe place and crime is low, but I still don't want to park in a public place or in a space so narrow as to risk damage from car doors.

For those for who have done a supermarket trip...where did you stay please?

As far as parking up a nice car goes you need not have any concerns about car theft in the Isle of Man it simply doesn’t exist. It’s not like you can take it anywhere without getting onto the boat. I very rarely even lock any of ours. However parking damage is a completely different ballgame, it’s a small island, parking can be at a bit of an premium and most people chug round in absolute knackers that they don’t give a fk about, no MOT test here “yessir”. Lots of Douglas hotels are very tight for parking or it’s non existent. Avoid Tesco car parks at all costs.
The Commice Hotel at the Mount Murray Golf Complex has a decent sized carpark but it’s a bit out of town and not a brilliant hotel unless you like golf!
The Ramsey Park Hotel is half decent but again the car park isn’t the biggest. There is an annual supercar tour that visits there every year so they must have some experience of parking high value stuff. It’s very convenient for the mountain run over the TT course. Might be worth giving them a ring to find out how they deal with it.

Hope you have a great time.

Thank you. Very much appreciated.

My car is a Corvette, so it's not exactly a small car. Whilst it won't dent, paint will chip so this is key consideration. I will take a look at the hotels you mention.

As mentioned above, dont worry about it. We stay with a friends that live on the island for the tt and we are ridiculed every year. They say the neighbours know when the english have arrived as they are the only bikes with locks on! Dont even need to see the number plate to know it's English. We did tell them it's part of our insurance that they have to be locked and they laugh as cant get over why anyone would attempt to steal anything its so rare out there. Its a small island if you dont ike your parking spot go park it round the corner and itll be just as safe there unlocked as in the car park.

As above, I think we have addressed that there is a lack of criminality on the IOM, so a car is not going to go missing. There is still a desire though at the end of the day, to go back to stay at a hotel where parking is not door to door in tiny spaces and risk of damage is reduced.

How long is long enough for a road trip. 3 nights? It's years ago since I last went and there was little to entertain myself, hence why I drove the circuit for fun.

None of the hotels on the seafront in Douglas will have parking as they were built for the Victorians and tbh Douglas is a bit rough these days anyway. I d use the link I posted above to find a cottage or something with its own parking elsewhere on the island. I recommend Peel, but I m biased. Also the south, like Port Erin or Castletown. North of Ramsey is a bit bleak and remote.

This is a nice pub that has rooms. Have eaten there a few times and the food is good. https://www.visitisleofman.com/accommodation/the-s...

Not far from Port Erin or the Sound. It has a big gravel car park to the rear. There are many others.
